Manchester United Transfer News: Georginio Wijnaldum Sparks Red Devils Rumours
Netherlands midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has revealed he is keen on a move away from PSV Eindhoven this summer and has admitted he would love to work with Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal.
The versatile star was a key part of the Dutch squad that finished third at the 2014 World Cup and has enjoyed an excellent campaign in the Eredivise in 2014/15. But speaking with Sky Sports' Pete Hall, the 24-year-old was pining for a move away from the Philips Stadion:
"I am happy at PSV but I am a player with a lot of ambition. I want to play in a stronger league than the Eredivisie.
With my quality I feel I can bring a lot to a team that I will join. I want to show it in the big leagues; England, Italy, Spain, Germany and France.
...
Of course I would like to work with him again [Van Gaal]. He is a good trainer, and makes players better. I work really fine with him and he is a great man.
He gave me a chance and opportunity to play in a World Cup after seven months out injured, and I am thankful for that. He helped me get my confidence back.

Van Gaal utilised Wijnaldum superbly in Brazil. While he is at his best in an orthodox midfield berth, the Dutchman has shown himself to be tactically adept, taking on bespoke instructions and following them with distinction.
They are qualities that would certainly appeal to the United boss, and the player has a clear affinity with him.
As Dutch football expert Elko Born noted earlier in the season, Wijnaldum is a player who has great admiration for Van Gaal:
On the domestic front this season, Wijnaldum has flourished. Despite his tender years, he is the captain of this vibrant young Eindhoven team that have surged to the top of the Dutch league, turning in regular multifaceted displays at the heart of midfield.
Along with compatriot Memphis Depay, he has been the standout player in the side.
Here’s a look at some of the 24-year-old’s best moments of the season:
It’d be naive to completely write off the prospect of this deal coming to fruition. After all, it’s clear Wijnaldum fancies a new challenge and would love the chance to join United.
As noted by Peter McVitie of Benefoot, given the player’s age and ability, it’s also probably the right time for him to test himself in a more demanding league:
Traditionally, players trading Dutch football for the English top flight have found the transition pretty tough, but Wijnaldum has the requisite qualities to thrive. Not only is he a technically sound talent, but he has the energy and intelligence to cope with the ferocious tempo of the Premier League.
Given Wijnaldum's wide-ranging attributes, Van Gaal would surely love to get the PSV man on board. But at this juncture, he’s not the kind of player United are crying out for.
Indeed, the best step for Wijnaldum’s development would be a switch to a team in England where he is going to become a critical component and get the minutes needed to blossom.
