Manchester United Transfer News: Edinson Cavani Comments on PSG Exit Rumours
Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani has dismissed rumours he will leave the French capital, saying he intends to "respect" his contract at the Parc des Princes. This may come as a blow to Manchester United, who have "shown interest" in signing the Uruguayan, according to Jonny Singer of the MailOnline.
Cavani spoke after PSG were convincingly beaten 3-1 by Barcelona on Wednesday night. The Champions League quarter-final first leg once again suggested the French club will fall short in Europe, despite considerable investment over the last few seasons.

With rumours continuing to circulate, Cavani told Sky (h/t Football Italia) that he plans to help PSG to future success: "There's too much talk about my future. I'll stay here, respect my contract, and think about doing well with PSG."
This comment follows on from club owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi insisting the Ligue 1 champions have no intention of letting Cavani exit, per Le Parisian (h/t Singer): "Edinson Cavani is a player I really like. I can tell you that he is very much with us, and the question of his departure has not arisen. Paris loves him and he loves Paris."
MailSport writer Adam Crafton doesn't believe Cavani would be a stellar signing for United:
"Cavani would be odd buy for #mufc. On the big occasions, he freezes in front of goal like a pianist whose timing has deserted him.

Max Bentley of BT Sport and the BBC Sport's Phil McNulty also suggested his performance against Barca failed to impress:

Cavani has scored eight in 28 Ligue 1 matches this season, not to mention six in nine Champions League starts, per WhoScored.com.
PSG boss Laurent Blanc often pushes him out-wide in a 4-3-3 formation, meaning he can only play his favoured striking role when Zlatan Ibrahimovic isn't available. This was the case on Wednesday, but he was unable to make an impact on the big stage.
Former United defender Gary Neville, now a pundit for Sky Sports, believes the Red Devils are better off focusing away from attack when strengthening, reported by Richard Innes of the Mirror:
"I don’t think this summer is a case of United rebuilding or total restructure of the squad. They need to continue to improve in two or three positions: a central defender, a midfielder and a winger.
It is a case of trading well, rather than wholesale buying. I don’t expect another £150million spend. I don’t think it is required.
"
B/R UK's Ryan Bailey and Matteo Bonetti provided their assessment on how United can return to Premier League glory:
United's most prominent need up top is speed. Manager Louis van Gaal doesn't possess a striker whose outright pace puts fear into defenders. He doesn't have someone to make the opposition's back line drop, thus opening up space for the side's creative midfielders. Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette would be a perfect fit due to his acceleration and clinical nature.
Cavani's desire to stay in France may be a blessing in disguise with this in mind, particularly if he continues to struggle in the most important matches.
