Overview
To say things are not going according to plan for Mumbai right now is an understatement. They've yet to get going on the pitch and have been beset by setbacks to their squad.
Australia seamer Josh Hazlewood pulled out of the tournament before a ball had been bowled, while his compatriot, Aaron Finch, is also now out of action.
Finch picked up a hamstring problem while batting in the loss to Rajasthan Royals. Per ESPN Cricinfo, he will not play for the Indians again this season. The Hindu suggests that Lendl Simmons could take his place in the starting XI.
The loss of Finch is a blow to a Mumbai top order that has yet to fire. The team's highest score so far is the 168 for three they posted on opening night against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Chennai struggled with the bat in their first game, too, though a score of 150 for seven still proved enough to beat Delhi Daredevils.
However, Brendon McCullum's unbeaten century helped them amass 209 for four in their last outing. Sunrisers Hyderabad never got close in reply, finishing up on 164 for seven.
The Super Kings will be hoping to make the most of the presence of McCullum, with the batsman cutting short his stint in the IPL to lead New Zealand on their tour of England.
Key players
Mumbai
Rohit Sharma made 98 opening the batting in Mumbai's first match. He hasn't mustered another run since.
The right-hander moved down to four in the batting order in the last game, but the absence of Finch could see him return to an opening role. The Indians need their influential captain to lead from the front.
Chennai
Seamer Ashish Nehra has conceded only 56 runs from his eight overs, including picking up impressive figures of three for 25 in the one-run victory over Delhi.
The left-arm seamer offers a little variety to a well-balanced bowling attack that is marshalled superbly by skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. It is a testament to their performances with the ball so far that left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja—an international all-rounder—has been called on to send down just one over.
