The 2009 college football betting season is nearly here! Check out BetUS Sportsbook’s list of the worst ATS teams that you should be ready to fade as we get ready to kick off the ’09 season!

Washington Huskies (1-11 ATS, 0-12 SU in 2008) Was there any team in college football more embarrassing than the Washington Huskies last year? The Huskies ranked 100th or worse in every single offensive category last year, including 117th in total yards (263.3 yards per game) and 118th in points (13.2 points per game). They finished up the season with 10 straight ATS defeats and dubiously hold the longest cover-less streak in the country. In its L/6 games, Washington only averaged scoring 8.83 points per game. New HC Steve Sarkisian has his work cut out for him, but a healthy QB Jake Locker should make it a bit easier.

Michigan Wolverines (2-10 ATS, 3-9 SU in 2008) What an embarrassment the Wolverines were in their first year under HC Rich Rodriguez! Rodriguez’s offense, which thrived at West Virginia, just didn’t work in its first year in the Big Ten. Michigan only mustered 290.9 yards of offense per game last year, the 109th mark in America. The defense at least had some moments of promise, including holding Minnesota to six points on November 8th. Remember, this was the only team that really came close to beating Utah a year ago. It’ll take some more time, but the Wolverines should do much better than this for football bettors in years to come.

Fresno State Bulldogs (2-10 ATS, 7-5 SU in 2008) The Bulldogs had a potent offense last season, as they averaged 387.2 yards and 29.6 points per game. However, it was the defense, which allowed 31 or more points eight times that really let the team down last year. They allowed a total of 101 points in their final two games against Boise State and Colorado State, both ATS defeats. Fresno has only covered one spread since the opening weekend of last season.

Wyoming Cowboys (2-9 ATS, 4-8 SU in 2008) No offense in the country was more disgraceful than Wyoming’s last year. The Cowboys ranked 108th in yards per game (295.8) and ranked dead last in the nation in points per game (12.7). They only scored more than 21 points in a game once, and that was at home against San Diego State. They were shut out by both BYU and New Mexico, and were held to seven points or less five times.

Auburn Tigers (2-9 ATS, 5-7 SU in 2008) Not covering many spreads isn’t the reason that former HC Tommy Tuberville is no longer with Auburn, but an offense that ranked 111th in the country at 17.3 points per game may have something to do with it. The Tigers only allowed 18.0 points per game last year, the 14th best mark in the country, but there was simply just no offense on this team. Hopefully, football bettors won’t be subject to another 3-2 contest like we were forced to watch last year when the Tigers faced Mississippi State.
