Premier League Table: Latest 2015 EPL Standings and Predictions for Matchday 33

Rory MarsdenApr 13, 2015

Manchester City's recent woes continued at the weekend as they were thrashed 4-2 by neighbours Manchester United at Old Trafford, and a victory on Matchday 33 is now essential for the Sky Blues.

City have lost three of their last four in the league, and are now in danger of slipping out of the top four, as Liverpool are closing the gap on them from fifth.

There is no doubt about Week 33's blockbuster encounter in the Premier League, as the Red Devils travel to Stamford Bridge in fine form to face table-topping Chelsea.

Chelsea vs. Manchester United

Louis van Gaal's United side have been in flying form of late, beating Tottenham, Liverpool and City in a run of six wins on the bounce.

Where previously they were not playing attractive football, their victory over City was exemplary and emphatic, with the Sky Blues unable to deal with the Red Devils' pace and pressing.

Marouane Fellaini has been key in United's resurgence, and he could be key against the Blues, his physical presence and ability to bring the ball down potentially set to trouble Chelsea's back line.

However, Jose Mourinho has a well-drilled defence who will be confident of dealing with United's attack, The Guardian's Barney Ronay highlighting the potential for fireworks when Fellaini faces up to Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic:

The Blues have dropped off somewhat in terms of quality in the second half of the season but have not lost in the league since January and are on course for the title.

They are unbeaten at home in the league all season and will have been buoyed by their late, hard-fought win at Loftus Road last time out.

Mourinho may well set up to frustrate United's attacking threats—Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata, Ashley Young—and a draw seems likely, although such is the quality going forward on both teams, that goals could be forthcoming.

Prediction: 2-2

Manchester City 2-1 West Ham

While Manuel Pellegrini's men have endured a shocking run of form of late, it has been away from home where they have really suffered, losing their last five in the league on the road.

They return to the Etihad for the visit of West Ham in Week 33, under huge pressure to win lest they fall further behind United and Arsenal in the top four.

With fifth-placed Liverpool not playing this weekend, City have a chance to extend the gap to the Reds, having been hauled into an unlikely race for the Champions League spots, per ESPN's Tommy Smyth:

Fortunately for City, they face a Hammers side in atrocious form, having picked up just one league win in their last 10 matches.

After a fine start to the season, Sam Allardyce's men look to be coasting to the finish line, with little to play for now, as European football is no longer a realistic possibility.

Though in a losing cause, Sergio Aguero did find his scoring boots again against United, the Argentine bagging a double to end a six-match drought.

City should have enough quality to down the Irons and get their ailing season back on track on home turf after the ignominy of the Old Trafford result.

Prediction: 2-1

Leicester City vs. Swansea City

A couple of weeks ago, Leicester were down and out, bottom of the table after a dismal run of results and certain to be playing Championship football again next season.

However, despite still sitting 20th in the Premier League, the Foxes have shown signs of life of late, picking up consecutive wins over West Ham and West Brom.

With the likes of relegation rivals Hull City and Sunderland enduring torrid spells of form—and not playing this weekend—Nigel Pearson's side could conceivably move out of the relegation zone with a win over Swansea.

They have a favourable run-in, with the visit of Garry Monk's men the first of five home games between now and the end of the season, potentially a huge advantage, per BT Sport's Ian Darke:

Swansea are in decent form having not lost in three matches, but Leicester look to be on a roll at the moment and could well grab a point at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester are ending their season strongly and could not be more motivated to put in a performance at the weekend and should come away with at least a point.

Prediction: 1-1
