Tiger Woods at Masters 2015: Leaderboard Score, Twitter Reaction from Sunday

Adam WellsApr 12, 2015

Even though the 2015 Masters didn't end the way Tiger Woods wanted it to, as he finished with a 73 on Sunday for an overall score of five-under par, the 14-time major champion had an entire weekend full of positive moments to build upon.

Here's the full leaderboard from Sunday at Augusta:

Considering where Woods was before the Masters, having not played in two months and not playing four rounds in an event since December, finishing under par this week is a huge step in the right direction.

As Stephen Hennessey of Golf Digest put it, if someone said Woods would shoot 73 or lower in all four rounds, not many people would have believed it:

There was a moment on the ninth hole when Woods injured his wrist on a hidden root in the ground, per ESPN's Jason Sobel, but he did keep playing to finish out his round. The wrist created some immediate problems, as he bogeyed the 10th hole.

Hopefully Woods' wrist isn't a long-term problem, because he did have a strong weekend. Per Kyle Porter of CBS Sports, Woods spoke after the round about what happened and how he rectified the issue:

ESPN's John Buccigross often celebrates hockey players' toughness on SportsCenter. Woods certainly deserves to get lumped into that category after putting a joint back into place in the middle of a golf tournament.

As far as Woods' actual golfing, per Ryan Lavner of the Golf Channel, the 39-year-old ended a 10-year Masters drought with his efforts on Friday and Saturday:

In typical Tiger fashion, via Kyle Porter of CBS Sports, he wasn't happy with shooting a 68 on Saturday:

"I had my chances to make this a really special round today," Woods said. "I had my chances there."

While not all of the shots went Woods' way this weekend, he was entertaining to watch for the first time in a long time. None of this is to say that he's back or going to win a major at some point in 2015, because that discussion is pointless.

If Woods is going to win a major, it's not going to be because of these four days in Augusta. He often plays well at this event. It hasn't led to success at the U.S. Open, British Open or PGA Championship.

For the cynics who feel that Woods tends to check out when he isn't in contention, his eagle on the 13th hole after suffering the wrist injury and struggling to stay around par should silence the haters. It was also a historic moment for the 39-year-old, via PGA Tour Media:

Woods' last eagle at August before Sunday was in the 2012 Masters on the fifth hole of his fourth round.

Christine Brennan of USA Today noted that the tournament marks the end of a sour decade in Georgia for Tiger.

Athletes have all sorts of weird superstitions, so maybe Woods getting out of his 30s in time for next year's Masters will wash away the bad vibes.

The problem for Woods on Sunday was an inability to hit a fairway. That's not an exaggeration, as he only hit two out of 14, per Masters.com. It was the lowest total for any player in any round at this year's Masters.

This could be the start of something for Woods. He finished fourth at the Masters two years ago en route to winning The Players Championship in May and PGA Tour Player of the Year. It wouldn't be fair to expect those results this time around, as he's two years older and facing a deeper field.

The fact that Woods was able to not only get through the Masters but finish with a good score under par and break 70 on back-to-back days is a nice reminder that he's still got good rounds in him. He needs to have more consistency over four days and with the driver to start winning again.

It's time to stop waiting for Woods to come back. The player everyone is talking about no longer exists. Instead, appreciate what this 39-year-old is still able to do and hope he can keep building off good things in order to challenge for a title soon.
