Obviously, the biggest storyline of the day will be whether Jordan Spieth can win his first major and potentially make history in the process, considering he has the chance to finish at 20-under or better, which has never been done at a major.
The parallels to Rory McIlroy, of course, are hard to ignore. At the 2011 Masters McIlroy was just 21 years old, same as Spieth. He had yet to win a major, same as Spieth. He went into the final day leading by four strokes, same as Spieth. He was considered one of the young phenoms in the game and a future star, same as Spieth.
McIlroy famously shot an 80 on the final day of that Masters, however—an epic collapse that he hasn't been able to quite wipe away with a Masters conquest. Will Spieth suffer the same fate?
Maybe, but probably not. Remember, a year ago, Spieth was tied with Bubba Watson atop the leaderboard heading into the final round before shooting a 72 and finishing three strokes off the lead. He's not new to this type of pressure or spotlight at Augusta. He's lived this once before, and he's certainly playing his best golf at the moment.
Even if Spieth has a so-so round, will anybody be able to catch him?
Well. Justin Rose played out of his mind to close Saturday's round, with five birdies in the final six holes. Phil Mickelson is always capable of putting together a magical round. Charley Hoffman has come out of nowhere to be in contention, so who really knows what he's capable of doing?
Those are the three likely contenders, as the rest of the field is 10 strokes behind Spieth. Barring a miracle, players like McIlroy and Tiger Woods aren't catching him.
Still, it will be interesting to see how the two biggest names in the game play Sunday. Can McIlroy use a big final round to put himself on a hot streak? Can Woods finish in the top five and serve notice that he's putting his name back in the "elite golfers" hat?
And while we're at it, can Watson—winner of two of the last three Masters—finish below par for the tournament? Augusta is a fickle creature to tame, and that's certainly evident this year as Watson struggles.
But hey, that's golf. And the fickle creature is one that Spieth hopes he can corral for one final afternoon to notch his place in history.
