Lexington Stakes 2015 Results: Winner, Payouts and Order of Finish
While no horses in this year's running of the Lexington Stakes were legitimate Kentucky Derby contenders, that didn't detract at all from the fact that these were talented horses running for a total purse of $250,000.
The 10 points that Divining Rod acquired through winning the Lexington are essentially useless, but the son of Tapit turned in an impressive performance that should keep him under a watchful eye as he continues through his three-year-old season.
Donworth took second, and Fame and Power took third; both were solid in their own respects.
Despite the lack of future Derby contenders, this was still a great race, and we'll take a look through what unfolded at Keeneland below.
Winner and Payouts
| Horse | Win | Place | Show |
| Divining Rod | $7.80 | $3.60 | $2.40 |
| Donworth | -- | $3.60 | $2.60 |
| Fame and Power | -- | -- | $2.60 |
Recap
Tiznow R J ranked as the best early speed in the race, but Fame and Power broke first, followed closely by Divining Rod, the second favorite.
Fame and Power maintained his lead through the first quarter mile in 24:03 seconds. Divining Rod, Henry Jones and Donworth bunched up about half a length behind the leader.
The group picked up the pace a little bit in the second quarter, posting a half-mile time of 47:90.
Fame and Power continued to lead the group through a ¾ mile in 1:12.66 before relinquishing his lead to Donworth, who then quickly lost the lead to Divining Rod, who worked three-wide through the final turn.
At the eighth pole, Divining Rod began to pull away and worked his way to a 1 ½-length victory. Divining Rod's rider, Julien Leparoux, proved to be up to snuff in this race, and his move to kick outside of the second- and third-place finishers and bring trainer Arnaud Delacour a win was impressive, to say the least.
Donworth (the post-time favorite) was a bit of a disappointment, and while his second-place finish looks good on paper, he faltered hard in the stretch run. After taking over second place, he was nearly re-passed by third-place finisher Fame and Power.
A great all-around showing for Divining Rod brought him and Leparoux to the winner's circle, where the colt looked just as strong as before the race started.
The young colt's performance in this race makes him a prime candidate to run in the Preakness and/or Belmont, and hopefully Delacour will have him firing on all cylinders for his next time out.
