Masters Tournament 2015: Mobile Updates for Saturday Leaderboard Scores

Steven CookApr 11, 2015

Is anyone going to be able to catch Jordan Spieth?

That's the burning question at the 2015 Masters entering Saturday. The third round is typically pegged as moving day when contenders establish their positions atop the leaderboard, but this weekend may see Spieth move further away from the field with each passing hole.

Despite setting a course record through 36 holes, Spieth entered Saturday just five shots ahead of Charley Hoffman. His first green jacket is far from won, so take a look at the below leaderboard to see how his lead is faring in Day 3.

Day 3 Golfers to Watch

Jordan Spieth

Spieth is on another planet right now.

The 21-year-old messed around and nearly broke the course record for his opening round and showed no signs of slowing on Friday by posting a 66 to move 14 strokes under par. That's the lowest score anyone has ever carded through 36 holes at the Masters.

He's playing so well that a par on a hole is a disappointment, as he hits every shot to near perfection and drains almost every putt he looks at. With 15 birdies through two rounds, Spieth shows you himself how many bogeys he's carded, per CBS Sports' Kyle Porter:

Is there any chance Spieth could be dethroned? He's only five shots ahead of the pack, but even that seems to indicate he's on his way to victory, as per Golf Channel's Justin Ray:

Any one of Charley Hoffman, Dustin Johnson or a few others could get hot and move within a few strokes of Spieth with a big third round, but that's all assuming that the youngster will slow down. Assuming he is able to sink four of five more birdies and avoid mishaps Saturday, nobody is going to stand a chance.

A Saturday slip-up from Spieth is just about the only thing that could prevent us from a drama-free Sunday at the Masters.

Had Spieth not gone out and made history, Phil Mickelson's resurgent Friday would likely be the talk of the clubhouse.

Lefty posted one of the best rounds of the day for Round 2, hitting a 68 to move into sole position of sixth place at six strokes under par. It was the first time that Mickelson looked right at home at Augusta since his magnificent third-place finish in 2012.

He'll have to hope he can channel his strong play into Saturday like he did back then. He followed up his second-round 68 in 2012 with a 66 that moved him into the final pairing for Sunday before it all came unraveled with a triple bogey early in the final round.

Mickelson will need something similar—if not better—during his third round to have any chance of moving into position to take down Spieth this weekend.

Dustin Johnson

Turn this into a par-five contest, and Dustin Johnson might be the one running away with the tournament—not Spieth.

Johnson moved into a three-way tie for third with his round of 67, which marked the day's second-best score, but his eagles stole the show. History was made, as he became the first to ever card three eagles in the same round at the Masters.

The European Tour captured his brilliance in comparison to another popular golfer:

Those eagles are great and all, but Johnson came to win his first major, and he's done nothing to prevent that—although Spieth certainly has. Along with Hoffman, Justin Rose, Mickelson and a few others, all Johnson needs is another great round while hoping that Spieth shoots something near par.

The latter part of that may be a foolish wish, but that won't stop Johnson from trying to hold up his end of the deal.
