Masters Leaderboard 2015: Twitter Reacts to Results and Standings from Friday
The Jordan Spieth show at the 2015 Masters bled into Friday at Augusta, as the 21-year-old star kept the competition at arm's length in historic fashion.
He shot a six-under 66 on Friday to move to 14-under par, with only Charley Hoffman, Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose close on his tail.
Here is a glimpse at the top of the leaderboard after Day 2:
After just a single blemish in Round 1, Spieth shot a bogey-free 18 Friday with three birdies apiece on the front and back nine.
As Ben Smith of the BBC captures, the totals rewrite the record books:
For Spieth, setting a record at Augusta is quite an achievement, as he told Mike McAllister of the PGA Tour website:
Remember last year, when Spieth wound up tied for second? For some, it seemed sheer luck. For others, it was a clear signal the youngster was on the right path and, perhaps, the next big thing quicker than anyone could have imagined.
For comparison's sake, ESPN Stats & Info notes the differences between Spieth's lone two showings at Augusta:
It will be interesting to see if Spieth can retain his current form, even more so with a world of pressure and expectations on his shoulders, not to mention a later tee time.
Believe it or not, other golfers took the course Friday, too.
Of note is Hoffman, who continues to put on a strong showing as of late. After a pair of top-11 finishes, he took Augusta by storm, shooting a five-under 67 on Thursday with an eagle for good measure.
On Friday, he was back at it, recording a single bogey on the way to a 68 to sit right behind Spieth at nine-under par. The European Tour puts things into perspective for Hoffman, who without Spieth's historic clip would be pretty happy:
As Golf World captures, Hoffman has a plan in place for the weekend:
Whether it be enough to catch up to Spieth and fend off those behind him is another conversation.
Speaking of behind him, Johnson, Rose and Paul Casey sit tied for third at seven-under par after two rounds.
Rose bogeyed three of his first four holes but evened out as the day went on and wound up shooting a 70. If a note by Lisa Cornwell of Golf Channel is any indication, he put on yet another great post-day interview:
Rose's fellow Englishman Casey didn't encounter the same issues, instead posting a bogey-free 68 on the day.
As for Johnson, well, he started off with a double bogey and things looked bad. Real bad. How did he respond?
Shooting three eagles, of course. Golf Channel's Kelly Tilghman put it best:
The feat is a record, as PGA TOUR Media reveals:
It's worth mentioning Phil Mickelson put on an epic run to end his day, placing him at six-under par and just behind the trio tied for third. As it deserves, Tilghman put a humorous twist on the late revelation:
"Phil Mickelson is within one shot of being within 7 shots of Jordan Spieth. This could get good.

Veering away from the leaderboard, a couple of names not in contention earned a social media raise of the eyebrow.
The first is Rory McIlroy, who now has a pair of 71s under his belt. He started in horrific fashion but posted an eagle on No. 13 and four birdies on the back nine, including two in a row to end Friday, to keep his head above water.
Shane Bacon applauded McIlroy's effort down the stretch:
"Impressive, impressive finish by Rory McIlroy. He won't win this week, but can take a lot from that fight back on Friday.
— Shane Bacon (@shanebacon) April 10, 2015"
The other, of course, being Tiger Woods. He struggled with short holes Thursday to a one over 73 but shot four birdies to one bogey Friday to card a 69 and sit at two-under par. Golf Channel captured Woods' reaction:
As Tilghman pointed out, though, Spieth's day overshadowed Woods' return to form:
"Back to back birdies for Tiger Woods but it's getting lost in the Jordan Spieth show.
— Kelly Tilghman (@KellyTilghmanGC) April 10, 2015"
To be fair, no hype machine can rise above Spieth's at this point as the spectacle at Augusta heads for the weekend.
If the first two days were any sign, the weekend will only produce more memorable moments and history.
