Recap
There were a lot of highlights on a fun day before the Masters, but none topped Jack Nicklaus hitting the course. And none topped this shot either, per the Masters on Twitter:
Of course, he wasn't the only one to notch an ace on the day, as Golf Digest noted on Twitter:
The day was also full of family moments and a few stars. There was Tiger Woods participating in the Par 3 event, something he hasn't done in years, with his kids. He tweeted about the experience after:
And then there was Bubba Watson enjoying the day with his son, Caleb:
Of course, the man who left fans swooning in his wake was Rory McIlroy's "caddie," Niall Horan of One Direction. He took a shot himself:
Everybody was having a bit of fun at the event, it seems. While the stars came out for the event, from Woods and Nicklaus to Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy, among others, it was really all about the families and the fun on Wednesday.
To top it all off, the tournament itself went to playoff holes, as Streelman and Camilo Villegas finished tied at five-under after regulation holes. They each parred the first playoff hole before Streelman took the second playoff hole and won the tournament.
Winning the Par 3 tournament is typically a bad omen for players heading into the Masters, as the winner of the preliminary event hasn't had much luck at the real thing, but Streelman will be carrying some good karma, as Jason Sobel of ESPN tweeted:
Ethan Couch is a 13-year-old with a brain tumor who made a wish to go to the Masters after having brain surgery. Streelman not only made that wish come true, but he also had Couch caddie for him during the Par 3 contest.
Streelman and Couch won the day on more than one front, in other words.
