Standout Performers

Rohit Puts Mumbai in With a Shout
Rohit Sharma carried his bat throughout the Mumbai Indians innings and was, in the main, responsible for pushing his side to a respectable score of 168 for three in their 20 overs.
The Indians were struggling at 37 for three in the sixth over, but Rohit found a worthy partner in Corey Anderson—who scored an unbeaten 55—as they accelerated in the final overs.
Rohit scored an impressive 98 from 65 balls—with 12 fours and four maximums—and moved up to second in the IPL's all-time leading scorers, per cricket writer Freddie Wilde:
"Most IPL Runs: Raina 3325 Rohit: 3001 Gambhir: 2806 Gayle: 2708 Kohli: 2632 #IPL #KKRvMI #KKR #MI
— Freddie Wilde (@fwildecricket) April 8, 2015"
A steady start to the innings, Rohit finished with some big hitting, and Mumbai will benefit hugely if he can score consistently well at the top of the order.
It was a fine start to the tournament for the opener, despite coming in a losing cause.
Gambhir, Yadav Key for Kolkata Win
Gautam Gambhir, another opening skipper, set the tone with the bat for his Kolkata side with a 43-ball 57, including seven fours and one six.
Gambhir was not flustered by the early dismissal of Robin Uthappa and played impressively to set his side up for the win.
When he fell to Jasprit Bumrah, KKR could have lost their momentum, but Suryakumar Yadav eased a huge six over the leg-side boundary off the second ball he faced to set the tone for his innings.
Yadav smashed 46 from just 20 balls to see Kolkata home with nine balls to spare, fittingly hitting a four to win the match and avoid any final-over nerves.
