Usain Bolt: Faster Than Lightning, Cool as Ice
Quick, somebody channel Irving Blitzer and pass a message that the greatest sprinter of all time hails from Jamaica. Of course, Mr. Blitzer would have to convert him to the sport he is passionate about: bobsledding.
Usain Bolt has been breaking world record after world record, yet the funny thing is, he already owned most of these records. Since the Beijing Olympics, Bolt has been uncatchable, even showboating before crossing the finish line.
Bolt even recently placed the blame on himself for Jamaica's gold, but not world record breaking, performance at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin. He said he had become tired after the prior days of racing.
Of course, many believe Bolt will continue to improve, but what is there left for him to prove?
There still is the 400 meter; the only event he has participated in without setting a world record.
The Jamaican bobsled team will only benefit from his presence. Imagine the headlines, the press, and the popularity for the small island's team headed into next year's Winter Games.
Remember what Herschel Walker did for the United States when competing in the 1992 Winter Games? Well, neither does anyone else (he finished seventh in the two man bobsled). To this day, Walker is remembered for his stellar play on the football field, and his courageous attempt to maximize his athletic ability.
Win or lose, world record or mediocre performance, Usain Bolt will always be remembered for his world record sprinting. He has nothing to lose trying to expand his horizons.
If Usain Bolt did lead the Jamaican bobsled team to the medal podium; surely, there would have to be a Cool Runnings II: Bolt to the Finish.
