Edgerrin James in, T.J. Duckett out of Seattle Seahawks' Backfield
The Seattle Seahawks signed 31-year-old veteran running back Edgerrin James and cut running back T.J. Duckett. James agreed to terms on a one year deal worth $2 million, and one would expect him to share the load with starter Julius Jones.
Who Will Score?
The one area that Duckett was highly effective at was scoring in the red zone, as he was the Seahawks' goal line back last season. In that role, he acquired eight rushing touchdowns.
Jones and Justin Forsett aren't considered to be capable to carry the load inside the five-yard line, as they are undersized runners and haven't shown they can get the job done.
This would leave one to believe that James would be the touchdown maker in the running game for this team in 2009.
Distribution of the Football
Look for James to take over at some point and be the main ball carrier for the team this year.
Jones should still see a decent amount of touches, but if James is running effectively, he should get the ball.
Forsett will remain the third runner on the team and is more of a change-of-pace running back and a 3rd-and-long receiving option out of the backfield.
Fantasy Football Information on James
Right now, I would like to see Edge play this weekend and see how effective he can be in the offense.
If he flashes a decent burst through the hole and does, in fact, take over the goal line duties, then he will have fantasy relevance this season.
At this time, it's a wait-and-see game with this running situation, but for most fantasy owners that are in leagues of 10 teams or fewer, I would recommend you pass on this entire situation altogether.
The Seahawks' offensive line is beat up right now and there are just too many hands in the pot for anyone to be truly effective and reliable in fantasy football.
