Calling True or False on 5 Recent Arsenal Transfer Rumours
The season is not over and yet the summer transfer rumours are ramping up.
After an impressive second half to the season, Arsenal will be looking to make the additions to their squad required to make them genuine title challengers.
In this piece, we look at five recent transfer stories about Arsenal and analyse their veracity, offering a true or false verdict on every story. Read on to discover the reality of Arsenal's summer transfer plans.
Raheem Sterling to Arsenal
1 of 5
According to John Cross of The Mirror, Arsenal will attempt to lure Liverpool's Raheem Sterling to London this summer.
Verdict: True
Arsene Wenger is a huge fan of English talent, and Sterling fits the kind of fluid football he likes Arsenal to play.
However, even if the interest is real it doesn't mean Arsenal will get their man.
Liverpool held out when Arsenal attempted to recruit Luis Suarez, and it's likely they'll do the same this time around. The American owners would be loath to let a star strengthen a rival, and with Sterling under contract for a further two years there is no immediate need to sanction a sale.
Petr Cech to Arsenal
2 of 5
Jeremy Wilson of The Telegraph reports that Arsenal are stepping up their interest in Chelsea's Petr Cech.
Jose Mourinho has seemingly suggested that Cech will have a say in where he goes this summer, telling the same newspaper:
"Petr Cech is not a player, he’s an institution. It’s different – 10 years in goal, going through everything he went through, great moments and sad moments, dying on the pitch. With institutions, you have to deal with things in a different manner. I think he won the right to be part of a discussion and a decision. He deserves a special perspective.
"
Verdict: True
With Wojciech Szczesny out of favour and David Ospina not entirely convincing, Arsenal would love to bring Cech to the Emirates Stadium.
Mourinho might be disinclined to let Cech join the Gunners, but Wenger will surely do all he can to make it happen.
Yohan Cabaye to Arsenal
3 of 5
Steve Stammers of The Mirror says Arsenal will revive their interest in Yohan Cabaye this summer.
Verdict: False
Although Mathieu Flamini and Abou Diaby are both likely to leave the club this summer, Mikel Arteta is likely to stay for a further year. With him on the books as a deep-lying playmaker, the addition of Cabaye seems unnecessary.
Kevin Wimmer to Arsenal
4 of 5
According to the Daily Star (h/t The Mirror), Arsenal are set to challenge Tottenham for the signature of Austrian centre-back Kevin Wimmer.
Verdict: False
Having added Gabriel Paulista to the trio of Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Calum Chambers in January, Arsenal now have a full set of centre-backs. It's not an area where they're likely to make a major acquisition this summer.
Paulo Dybala to Arsenal
5 of 5
The agent of Paulo Dybala, Gustavo Mascardi, has told Gazzetta TV (h/t The Mirror) that an English club has bid for his client.
"It would be fundamental for him to remain in Italy and continue his growth process in Serie A.
We have received important offers for Dybala, including from abroad where he is in particular wanted by an English club. There are two or three Italian proposals too.
"
Verdict: True
With doubts persisting over the future of Theo Walcot, Arsenal could be after a speedy front-man this summer. Dybala would undoubtedly fit the bill.
