Scarbrough Suffers Torn ACL
Friday, April 3
Aaron Suttles of TideSports.com reported Scarbrough tore his ACL at the end of a scrimmage on Friday:
"Freshman running back Bo Scarbrough needs surgery to repair his torn ACL that he sustained during Friday's scrimmage, and will miss the rest of spring practice, The Tuscaloosa News has learned.
Scarborough was injured at the end of Friday's scrimmage, UA coach Nick Saban said. Scarbrough rushed for two touchdowns before his injury.
"
Head coach Nick Saban previously commented on the setback prior to the MRI results being revealed, per Matt Zenitz of AL.com: "You've got to take MRIs and do all those things, so I don't speculate on these kind of injuries. We'll see, and we'll let you know when we find out."
Zenitz detailed the attrition the Crimson Tide's running back position has undergone this offseason. Altee Tenpenny transferred, Tyren Jones was dismissed from the team, and T.J. Yeldon declared for the NFL draft.
Only Derrick Henry and Kenyan Drake carried the ball two or more times last season—although highly prized recruit Damien Harris will be part of the roster when he arrives in the summer—which means Scarbrough has the chance to compete for playing time if he's healthy in the fall.
Scarbrough is a physically imposing runner who does not shy away from contact. He certainly needs to be healthy, though, if he hopes to bully his way through the middle of SEC defensive lines.
Suttles pointed out that injuries are far too common with Scarbrough and pondered what Saban and his coaching staff may do as a result of all the setbacks at running back:
The Crimson Tide will need to make adjustments heading into next season with Scarbrough sidelined for the foreseeable future.
