Moves Arsenal Should and Should Not Make in the Summer Transfer Window
With the season approaching its climax, thoughts are inevitably turning toward the summer transfer window. Arsenal will be looking to fine-tune their squad in order to launch a serious challenge for the Premier League in 2015/16.
In this piece, we suggest some of the moves Arsenal should and shouldn't make in the transfer window on both the buying and selling sides of the market.
Read on to discover how Arsenal should reshape their squad ahead of next season. If you disagree, leave your thoughts in the comments below.
Arsenal Should Sign Petr Cech
1 of 5
Matt Law of The Telegraph has reported the Gunners have joined Roma in the battle to sign Petr Cech this summer.
That makes plenty of sense. Arsenal need to sign a new No. 1. Wojciech Szczesny has been relegated to the substitutes bench, while David Ospina has looked a little unconvincing as his replacement.
Chelsea's Cech could be the perfect man for the job. Although he has lost his place to Thibaut Courtois, he remains an outstanding goalkeeper who would be an immediate upgrade for Arsenal.
Arsenal Should Not Recall Their Attackers from Loan
2 of 5
At present, Arsenal have Lukas Podolski, Joel Campbell and Yaya Sanogo out on loan with Inter Milan, Villarreal and Crystal Palace, respectively.
Arsenal should not be in a hurry to bring any of them back to the Emirates Stadium. With competition for attacking spots already rife, it's difficult to see how they fit into the first-team picture at Arsenal.
Podolski and Campbell ought to be permanently sold, while Sanogo could be sent for another prolonged spell. Another year of first-team football would either help make him ready for life at Arsenal or potentially increase his value for an eventual permanent sale.
Arsenal Should Sell Mathieu Flamini
3 of 5
Mathieu Flamini's time with Arsenal is surely approaching a close.
The emergence of Francis Coquelin has pushed Flamini down the midfield pecking order, and once Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere are available for selection, he may find himself surplus to requirements.
Arsenal should create space on the wage bill by allowing the veteran midfielder to move elsewhere.
Arsenal Should Sell Theo Walcott
4 of 5
Theo Walcott's contract is just over a year from ending, and with little sign of a breakthrough in negotiations, the club must be considering a sale. Having invested so much in his development, it would be absurd to risk losing him on a free transfer in 2016.
Walcott has been marginalised from the first-team picture in recent weeks, suggesting that Wenger may be preparing for life without the speedy winger.
Arsenal Should Sign Paulo Dybala
5 of 5If Theo Walcott leaves Arsenal, Paulo Dybala could be the ideal man to replace his contribution in front of goal.
Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has claimed on Italian radio station Radio Marte (h/t Will Giles of the Metro) that Arsenal have joined Juventus in making an official offer for Dybala's services.
If Arsenal can see off Juve and secure a deal, they will have acquired one of the most exciting young talents in world football.
