Arsene Wenger's Philosophy Is Spot On

hidihi hodihoAug 23, 2009

Throughout the summer every critic from all parts of the footballing family had criticized Arsene Wenger's lack of expenditure on established players to reinforce his team.

However, Arsene had always argued that he has a good enough team and will spend should he need to.

So far, he has proved himself right.

The recent games against Celtic, Everton and Portsmouth have proved his point. Arsene likes to push his young players in key games to establish themselves as first team players. With the likes of Toure and Adebayor, some of the most senior players, having left the club, all eyes were on Wenger and the transfer market to see who would replace them.

In came Vermaelen, an unknown defender, with many questions being asked about how well he can adapt, and whether he is tall enough for a Premiership defender. How many times has Arsene Wenger proven that he can make a good player into a great player? He certainly reiterated his point with Vermaelen.

As an Arsenal fan I strongly agree with Wenger's Philosophy. Although he can do with another striker, I feel he is well covered in the defensive midfield area. Song and Denilson are stepping up to the mark finally, and although most of the goals are coming from midfield, I don't feel the attack area is in too much of problem.

The problem with a lot of fans (and commentators) is that they want individually talented players to come in and win the Premiership for them. If Arsene bought 10 gifted players in the summer and they go on to win all three trophies, then can you really say that Arsenal won? Or did they just buy the trophy like Chelsea did and Man City are aiming to do?

The players Arsenal have (although some are not homegrown) spent most of their childhood/teenage years at Arsenal. So you can say that they are true Arsenal players. A title win with these players will be a much better feeling than a win with 10 players bought in the summer.

It may be too early to say this but Arsenal can go on to win the Premiership this year with the current squad if they do not suffer any injuries, and if the likes of Wilshere, Walcott, Song, Ramsey, and Diaby can perform in big games.

Their biggest test so far will be Manchester United in the weekend. This may be the time Arsenal can win both away and at home with their arch rivals. Manchester United are not as strong without Ronaldo. My guess would be a 2-1 win for Arsenal.

Although Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool are still a threat, it would be unwise to turn a blind eye to teams such as Manchester City, Tottenham, and even Burnley!

Here's to Arsenal winning something this season!
