Roy Jones Jr. vs. Paul Vasquez: Winner, Recap and Reaction

Joseph ZuckerMar 28, 2015

For the second time in less than a month, Roy Jones Jr. was victorious in quick fashion. Saturday night in Pensacola, Florida, Jones earned a technical-knockout win over Paul Vasquez.

The Pensacola News Journal posted a photo of the 46-year-old as he was getting his hand raised:

Instagram user "legendary_training" captured the bulk of the fight. Vasquez attempted to land a few punches, but they were merely glancing blows and did little to stop Jones. The former pound-for-pound king went on the offensive and landed a flurry of strikes, which left the referee little choice but to stop the fight:

The bout certainly meant a lot to Jones, who was born in Pensacola. It was the first time he fought in his hometown since defeating Omar Sheika via technical knockout in 2009.

Fans also turned out in droves to see Jones' homecoming. Bill Vilona of the Pensacola News Journal photographed the lines waiting outside the Pensacola Bay Center in preparation for the card, which featured a sprinkling of boxing and mixed martial arts clashes:

Jones' last fight came just 22 days ago, which was a second-round knockout win over Willie Williams. The short layoff didn't look to affect him in the slightest.

Before he took on Vasquez, Jones made his intentions clear. He believes the more fights he takes, the more he'll be prepared for a possible battle with WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck.

"I want to stay active and continue on my path towards a fight with Marco Huck later this year," Jones said, per ESPN.com's Dan Rafael. "I've been working on some different things and the fights I've been doing are helping me hone these. I haven't fought here in Pensacola for six years and I really am looking forward to seeing all my fans Saturday night. Pensacola in the house!"

Huck boasts a 38-2-1 career record and will take on Krzysztof Glowacki on June 12. A target date for the fall would make sense for Jones in the event Huck defends his title.

With Saturday's win, Jones moves to 61-8 over his illustrious career. He currently has a seven-fight winning streak following his three defeats between 2009 and 2011.
