Young Boston Bruins Fan Liam Fitzgerald Gets His Own Hockey Card
The sporting world met Liam Fitzgerald in 2014, when his small figure stood at rapt attention near the Boston Bruins' tunnel with a fist extended for bumps.
Footage of Liam and Bruins players exchanging daps spread quickly, and before long, the nine-year-old had earned recognition from USA Today as the Best Fan of 2014.
While titles and YouTube views are nice, Liam truly hit the big-time during Thursday night’s game against the Anaheim Ducks, when his image was immortalized on a larger-than-life Upper Deck hockey card.

The young fan stood by as mascot Blades the Bruin unveiled the new card in front of the packed and cheering TD Garden crowd. The ensuing scene might have been the best thing to happen to hockey since the Bash Brothers.
The honorary card seemed to please Liam, who hasn’t had the easiest row to hoe.
According to CBSSports.com’s Chris Peters, Liam was born with Down syndrome. At four years old, he was then diagnosed with leukemia. He eventually beat cancer—a lifetime achievement at the top of his accomplishments listed on the back of the card.
The Bruins fell 3-2 to the Ducks, but there’s plenty more hockey to be played and more than enough fist bumps to go around.
Looking sharp, little man. And I see they left “Has a mean knuckle puck” off the back of your card. It’s probably for the best. Don’t want to give that secret away before the postseason.
Dan is on Twitter. He wishes he could get all these daps.
