Chelsea Transfer News: Latest on Sergio Ramos and Radamel Falcao Rumours

Sergio Ramos has admitted he cannot see himself "in a shirt other than that of Real Madrid," crushing speculation he could move to Chelsea.

The Blues made contact with Ramos' agent in January, according to Anthony Chapman of the Express, but it seems the centre-back is intent on remaining at the Bernabeu for the foreseeable future.

Even so, he's not in a rush to sign a new deal, as told to Spanish radio show El Larguero (h/t AS): "I have not called the club to ask for a renewal. I have two years left on my current deal, I am very happy and I have not made a call for a new deal. They are not rushing because I do not see myself in a shirt other than that of Real Madrid. I want to give me best for it."

Chelsea's defensive prospects have come under increased scrutiny in recent weeks. Despite possessing the second-best goals-conceded record in the Premier League this season—a huge part in the Blues remaining top—Jose Mourinho's side have struggled for defensive consistency since Christmas.

This was highlighted when League One side Bradford City struck four past them during January's FA Cup tie at Stamford Bridge. Tottenham racked up a quintet in their 5-3 victory at White Hart Lane, while relegation-threatened Hull City nearly shocked the champions-elect during Chelsea's 3-2 win at the KC Stadium on Sunday.

Mourinho has brought youngster Kurt Zouma into first-team contention to help deal with the troubles. He is an aggressive, eager-to-please 20-year-old who offers a much sharper turn of pace than Gary Cahill. This was highlighted en route to the club's Capital One Cup success, which saw Zouma eliminate Raheem Sterling's speed from a tricky semi-final tie with Liverpool.

It's possible Mourinho will be looking for a more experienced alternative to Zouma, however. Ramos is one of the world's best centre-backs, an upgrade on most, but he shows no signs of leaving the Bernabeu.

Ramos recently admitted Madrid "are a better team now than under Mourinho in all aspects of the game," per Cadena SER (h/t Stefan Coerts of Goal.com), so he's obviously not enthused about the prospect of hooking up with his old Portuguese colleague.

Speculation linking the Blues with a move for the misfiring Radamel Falcao also seems exaggerated. B/R UK's Sam Tighe thinks Falcao is a waste of time:

The Monaco striker has struggled to make a positive impression on loan at Manchester United this season, but "Chelsea are understood to be ready to make a surprise summer move" for him, according to The Sun (h/t The Telegraph).

Considering Chelsea currently possess the Premier League's joint-leading goalscorer in Diego Costa—who has racked up 19 this season—huge questions would be asked if Mourinho suddenly agreed to pay Falcao's £265,000-per-week wages.

United dismissing their option to buy would summarise the Colombian's poor form, which has seen him net four in the English division this campaign.

The Sun's headline also indicates Liverpool will try to capture Falcao's services, as tweeted by Nick Sutton of BBC Radio 4:

Chelsea have the squad they need to dominate England for years but are missing one or two vital pieces to make a prolonged impact in the Champions League. A top-class centre-back to partner John Terry may be Mourinho's most likely purchase this summer, particularly if Cahill continues to struggle.

As proved with Loic Remy's winner from the bench against Hull, Chelsea have the striking quality they need to fill in for Costa. Although Didier Drogba's role is likely to become increasingly limited, it would be risky to throw so much cash at Falcao if he's going to sit on the bench, particularly with UEFA's financial fair play rules in mind.
