Adam Teicher of ESPN notes the significant drop in his 2015 base salary:
Pelissero also provided updated details relating to the salary cap:
Both sides emerge happy. Grubbs gets some additional guaranteed money, and the Chiefs now have a much more manageable cap number on the books for him.
Kansas City sent a fifth-round pick to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for the 31-year-old guard earlier in the offseason. Before spending three years with the Saints, the lineman spent the first five seasons of his career with the Baltimore Ravens.
He's remained durable, playing in all 16 games in every season but 2011. He should provide a nice boost to the Chiefs' run blocking after helping the Saints rate second in that area last season, according to Football Outsiders.
Between the late-round pick to acquire him and the reduced cap number, Grubbs represents a nice value addition by Kansas City.
