OSU'S Pryor...Born To Run!
Greetings to the Buckeye Nation! Attended Media Day at the "Shoe" in Columbus last week and immediately got the scoop from last years center Micheal Brewster that star QB Pryor torched the 40 with a 4.33. The overriding theme to the day seemed to be about Pryor's advancement.
Coach Tressel compared Pryor's progression to Troy Smith. Tressel alluded to the running versus passing yards that decreased each year that Smith was in the system, and felt Terrelle would be similar.
The coach also pointed out how few knew how inexperienced Pryor was last season and that they thought his ability could carry him through. Well, it did to an extent. Tressel did indicate that his QB's emergence in the system this summer, as well as a "new" group of young players has given this year's camp a feel of enthusiasm and confidence. You Tressle-ites will be glad to know that the "kids are working hard and having fun" as always.
Defense was flying somewhat under the radar at media day as there was also a lot of focus on the Buckeye O-line. With star recruits Shugarts and Adams joining starter Brewster at center, the Bucks have the talent for the much awaited "athletic offensive line. Michigan transfer Justin Boren is the only lineman that fits the stereotypical mold of a Big Ten OL. Cordle and the others are big and rangy. No overweight mid sections on these guys.
The biggest personal surprise was the interview with Florida RB recruit Jamaal Berry. Berry as you remember was recently in trouble with the Florida authorities on a felony marijuana charge. The charge was reduced and Berry is in Columbus. The surprise? He was a very well spoken young man. Very much looks like and has the confidence of a player who expects to make an impact, not a thug.
The bottom line? The Bucks should dominate a mediocre Big Ten. No one has come close to recruiting the talent in Columbus. SoCal traveling to the "Shoe" September 12 will insure more national respect for the Bucks when they win!
