Who Is The Boxing Legend Icon In This Photo?
Who is the boxing legend icon in this photo above?
Yes, one of the men in the above photo is a familiar face. It is none other than yours truly, the very sexy columnist known as KING J.
But who is that other familiar face standing next to him?
Let's provide you boxing fans with some clues, starting from minor hints to the most obvious dead give-aways.
Shall we?
First off, this man graduated from Columbia University and then quickly obtained a license by the New York State Athletic Commission.
He ran a pharmacy, but his first true love and passion for boxing kept him constantly glued and watching hundreds and hundreds of fights, never missing a match and keeping hundreds of recorded fights in his personal library.
After word spread of just how much of a huge boxing fan this man was and how well he knew his craft it was just a matter of time before the powers that be over at HBO recruited him.
What an inspiration this man is to me, and to all of the real-deal boxing fans out there, as he started out much like many of us and landed that one dream job that we all just simply envy.
HBO's other legendary commentator Jim Lampley would often introduce him as followed: "And now the rules with our unofficial ringside scorer..."
Yes, this man is the legendary unofficial ringside judge of HBO. You might not recognize his face as fast as you recognize Jim Lampley's or Larry Merchant's, who are always in front of the camera, but I guarantee you recognize his vintage New York screechy accent voice. He often responds to Lampley's request to ask how he has the fight scored so far like this for example: "OK, Jim, six rounds to one. Roy Jones Jr., Jim. Roy is just way too fast for him, and he is landing at will with clean effective punches".
Did you figure out who this legendary HBO boxing icon is yet?
If you said Harold Lederman, then you are correct!
Lederman is the man I had the honor of meeting him at the Grand Finale, also known as Manny Pacquiao versus Erik Morales III at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. He was just like how we hear him on HBO—very upbeat, positive, and energetic, and that thick New York screechy voice sounds exactly the same in person.
Lederman quickly flies back right after the fights he works, as he told me at the end he hopes he does not miss his ride and flight.
Again, he is truly an inspiration. It was an amazing fight, and a great night full of classic Las Vegas times.
I'll stop there, since this will remain a PG-rated article. Wink Wink.
