Premier Boxing Champions 2015: Fight Card, TV Schedule for March 13

Brian MaziqueMar 11, 2015

On Friday, March 13, Premier Boxing Champions and Spike TV will present the next boxing event from PBC. On Saturday, PBC made its debut with an NBC-broadcasted card that featured Adrien Broner taking on John Molina Jr., and Keith Thurman defending his WBA "regular" welterweight title against Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero.

Per NBC Sports, Saturday's event was the most-watched boxing broadcast since 1998. That accomplishment makes for a tough act to follow for the Spike TV debut. While the debut of PBC on network television may have received a ton of attention for being the first in the series, there's a chance this week's fights might be more entertaining.

Former IBF welterweight champion Shawn "Showtime" Porter (24-1-1, 15 KO) takes on hungry contender Roberto Garcia.

In the feature bout, former WBC and IBF welterweight champion Andre Berto (29-3, 22 KO) faces "The Riverside Rocky" Josesito Lopez (33-6, 19 KO). The action takes place at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California.

Here's the pertinent viewing information.

When: Friday, March 13 at 9 p.m. ET

Where: Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California

TV: Spike TV

Shawn Porter vs. Roberto Garcia

After dropping his last bout and his IBF title to Kell Brook in his last fight, Porter is eager to get back into the win column. The defeat was the first of Porter's career. Taking the first defeat can be difficult for a highly successful fighter like Porter, but he seems to have taken the experience and built on it.

Porter told the Los Angeles Times' Lance Pugmire: “I’ve learned I have what it takes to be at this level now. I always knew it, but getting through fights when you get cut, getting through long fights where guys just don’t quit for 12 rounds, now you really know it.”

Porter may need to draw upon that resolve on Friday night. His opponent is not only a tough and grizzled veteran looking to make his name at his expense, Garcia is also a friend and former sparring partner of Porter's.

During the media conference call, Garcia talked about how big this fight is for him. He said: "If I win, I could be the guy that people say, hey, that's the guy who beat Shawn Porter."

He clearly wants that feeling. Having sparred with their opponent, both men have to feel as if they have an advantage over the other.

Those sessions were practice. This is the real thing. We'll soon see who is the better man when the punches count.

Andre Berto vs. Josesito Lopez

Without question, Lopez will have the hometown advantage on Friday night. Hailing from Riverside, California, Lopez should have the largest rooting section in the arena.

That bit of adversity likely pales in comparison to the things Berto has had to fight through over the last two years. He'd lost two fights in a row and three of four in one stretch. These were the first three losses of his career.

Perhaps even heavier than the losses was the shoulder injury that Berto says had him thinking retirement. He said: "I really had to learn how to use my right arm all over again."

That's pretty significant. He seems as confident and healthy as we've seen him in well over a year. When he steps through the ropes on Friday, he'll be glaring at an opponent who always comes to fight. While tests against Canelo Alvarez and Marcos Rene Maidana proved to be too much for Lopez, he's still a battler who stopped a man who defeated Berto.

Up to this point, the biggest win Lopez has scored was over Victor Ortiz. Lopez broke Ortiz's jaw, and the injury forced the fight to be stopped. Berto lost a thrilling bout with Ortiz back in 2011 by unanimous decision.

When referencing a common opponent, Lopez looks to have the edge. But styles make fights, and we'll soon see how Berto and Lopez mix it up.
