Brad Keselowski, Justin Allgaier Crew Chiefs Penalized for Las Vegas Infractions
NASCAR penalized the crew chiefs for Brad Keselowski and Justin Allgaier for separate violations they committed this past weekend at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, per Dustin Long of NASCAR Talk.
According to Long, NASCAR officials discovered modifications on Keselowski's car to the right and left rear quarter panel openings that were made after the car had already been inspected. As a result, crew chief Paul Wolfe was put on probation.
ESPN.com's Bob Pockrass provided his thoughts on the punishment:
Meanwhile, Steve Addington, Allgaier's crew chief, was hit with a $25,000 fine after the No. 51 car didn't hit the minimum weight after the Kobalt 400. According to USA Today's Jeff Gluck, NASCAR officials were tipped off when they noticed a ballast falling off the car.
"The issue was unintentional, and we regret its occurrence," said HScott Motorsports owner Harry Scott Jr. of the problem. "Going forward, we have implemented additional procedures to ensure that we do not have a repeat incident. We accept NASCAR's penalty and fully support its efforts to keep the sport as safe as possible for competitors, officials and fans."
Gluck also pointed out that NASCAR's ruling for Addington came with no points penalty, which is perhaps the most important aspect:
Both Wolfe and Addington avoided any serious discipline. The damage could've been much worse for themselves or their drivers.
But they'll need to avoid any other infractions moving forward through the rest of the season.
