Massive Swarm of Bees Delays Royals-Angels Spring Training Game

Kyle NewportMar 9, 2015

Although Major League Baseball spent the offseason looking for ways to speed up games, it didn't come up with a way to prevent bees from taking over stadiums and causing delays.

During Sunday's spring training game between the Kansas City Royals and the Los Angeles Angels at Tempe Diablo Stadium in Tempe, Arizona, a massive swarm of bees showed up and caused a couple of delays.

The bees forced the players out of position and perhaps reminded some of a classic scene from Tommy Boy.

The bees eventually settled in on a microphone behind home plate, allowing the game to resume. Thankfully, a beekeeper took care of the issue in the fourth inning.

While many were just glad to see the bees kept under control, Royals manager Ned Yost wasn't pleased with how the keepers removed the insects during the 6-4 Kansas City win, per Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times and Randy Covitz of The Kansas City Star:
