Juan Soto Talks Injury Return Timeline amid Speculation Mets Star Will Be Shut Down for Season

Amid speculation that he'll be shut down for the remainder of the season, New York Mets star Juan Soto said he still plans to play this year.

"Yeah, 100 percent," Soto said Monday when asked about returning this season.

The Mets placed Soto on the 10-day injured list on Saturday after he suffered a grade 2 left calf strain.

"We're just taking it week by week, day by day," Soto said. "We're trying to see how I feel. Definitely I'm young enough to recover quick. So we don't know how I'm going to feel tomorrow, the next day."

Mets interim manager Andy Green said a timeline for Soto will be discussed once he's completely healthy.

"We think the timelines line up that there's enough of a season left that it's worthwhile to get one of your best players back on the field and go win baseball games," Green said.

Obviously, the Mets would like to have Soto back on the field sooner rather than later, but at this point, it's not worth rushing back. New York is 44-62 and has virtually no chance to make the postseason.

The 27-year-old Soto is hitting .283 this year with 21 home runs and 52 RBI.
