New Warriors Rumors on Jaylen Brown, Anthony Davis, Giannis Trade Talks Before Failed LeBron Pursuit

The Golden State Warriors have had a relatively dissapointing offseason, but things could have been much different.

ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Stephen A. Smith's podcast that the Warriors eyed a trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo that would have sent four first-rounders back to the Bucks, but Milwaukee wasn't interested.

Before attempting to get in on the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes, Golden State eyed another trade for a superstar at the deadline.

"The Warriors could have gotten in the Jaylen Brown sweepstakes if they wanted to give up four first-round picks-ish, in that range," Charania said. "They decided not to. Those two teams, the Warriors and the Celtics, talked about a Jaylen Brown trade around the trade deadline."

Charania also reported that, had the Warriors been able to land Anthony Davis from the Washington Wizards, they "would have had as good of a chance, if not better than anyone, to go get LeBron James."

Of course, that was a bit out of their control since the Washington Wizards reportedly weren't interested in moving Davis. Still, it remains one of the biggest "what ifs" of the offseason.

Golden State's decision not to give up first-round picks for Brown perhaps speaks to the team's mindset of building for the future. While pairing Brown with Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler would have made for a championship-level roster, it doesn't exactly fit the Warriors' vision for staying relevant once Curry retires.

In the summer of stars on the move, Golden State didn't make any big moves and will run back roughly the same roster, barring any late-offseason additions.

It's easy to understand why Curry might be a bit frustrated with the front office, but Charania reported that he "fully expects" the future Hall of Famer to end his career with the Warriors.
