Derby U21s vs. Arsenal U21s: Date, Time, Live Stream and Viewing Info

James DudkoMar 9, 2015

Arsenal's under-21 setup isn't as accomplished as the club may like many to believe. Sitting fifth in Division 2, the younger Gunners face a tough trip to second-placed Derby.

The Rams' youth levels are far more highly regarded and manager Lee Glover will feel confident about overmatching Arsenal's fledglings.

Here are the schedule and viewing details:

Derby enter this game with the more decorated squad. The group features quality young talents such as 18-year-old central midfielder Callum Guy and 19-year-old striker Kwame Thomas.

The precocious duo have even seen some first-team action with the seniors this season. They'll represent the biggest threat to the Gunners.

A production line of talent highlighted by 20-year-old schemer Will Hughes' ascent to the first team, has helped Derby recently achieve Category One Status in academy football, per the Premier League's official site.

Yet academy manager Darren Wassall indicated England still needs to show more faith in upcoming prospects:

"

That's the challenge. And that's where we as a nation need to start believing in our young players. We underestimate them. We've proven that here with the likes of Will Hughes. They're not the finished article when they go in; but the only way they're going to get the experience is by playing and making their mistakes. We'll have lost games as a club by blooding the young players but ultimately now they're in a team that's challenging to get into the Premier League – everyone's a winner.

"

That's a brave philosophy and one Arsenal senior manager Arsene Wenger has always tried to embody. The likes of full-back Hector Bellerin and striker Chuba Akpom have been granted first-team exposure this season.

Wenger will never be afraid to play academy starlets who stand out. One player he is still waiting to see make the grade is intelligent midfield pass-master Gedion Zelalem.

He scored in Arsenal's last U-18 outing, a 5-3 away win over Leicester City, per the club's official site. Despite the recent goal, the 18-year-old still hasn't lived up to the moniker of, "new Cesc Fabregas."

In fact, Gunners CEO Ivan Gazidis has attempted to dampen the hype, per Sports Illustrated (h/t Daily Express writer James Cambridge): "You have to temper this [expectation] because you are always looking for the next big star, and I've been guilty of this myself."

Zelalem needs to add physicality to his tremendous class on the ball. That's a tough ask of a slight teenager.

The key figure for the Gunners will more likely be forward Serge Gnabry. He's another youngster who broke into the first-team ranks, even scoring in Arsenal's 2-1 away win over Swansea City last season.

Gnabry will step up his comeback.

A long-term injury has since derailed the 19-year-old's progress. But Gnabry is lightning-fast and stoutly built, with a natural eye for goal.

Arsenal may not be doing as well as their talent suggests at this level. But manager Steve Gatting's team did beat division leaders Newcastle United away in their last match.

Following that with a win over Derby would really shake things up at the top. But Glover's group will be no easy targets.
