Manchester United: Best and Worst Players for February

Rob DawsonMar 2, 2015

Manchester United's results in February have been mixed, as they have been all season.

They beat Cambridge in their FA Cup fourth-round replay before seeing off Preston in the fifth round. They also beat Burnley and Sunderland in the Premier League.

But a draw with West Ham and defeat to Swansea have left United in a battle for a place in the top four with Arsenal, Southampton, Liverpool and Tottenham.

Here's a rundown of the best and worst performers in February. Feel free to use the comments section below to agree, disagree and add your own.

BEST: Marcos Rojo

United's defence has received plenty of stick this season, but its record is one of the best in the Premier League.

Marcos Rojo has been quietly impressive in his first season at Old Trafford. He's played at centre-back and left-back during February and looked comfortable in both positions.

Louis van Gaal just needs to find a long-term centre-half partner for him in the summer.

BEST: Ashley Young

2 of 6

Ashley Young changed the game when he came on against Preston, and United had their best spells against Swansea when he replaced Luke Shaw. And starting on the left wing against Sunderland, he was United's best player.

It was a timely reminder to Van Gaal that he can be more than just a reserve left-back.

BEST: Ander Herrera

Some United fans were starting to wonder what Ander Herrera had done wrong. The midfielder had just two starts in three months before starting against Preston, Swansea and Sunderland in February.

The supporters like him because he wants to go forward, but it seems like Van Gaal is still trying to work out where his best position is.

Goals against Preston and Swansea have made sure he stays in the Dutchman's plans.

WORST: Robin van Persie

4 of 6

Robin van Persie has looked like a shadow of himself this season, and things haven't been much better in February. He scored one goal, but even that was a late penalty against Burnley.

The ankle injury he picked up against Swansea might even turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Van Gaal if it means Wayne Rooney returns to his natural position up front for the rest of the season.

WORST: Radamel Falcao

5 of 6

Radamel Falcao looks short of confidence, and it won't have been helped that he was taken off against Preston and left on the bench against Swansea—both times when United were chasing a goal.

He was poor against Sunderland too, but he was just starting to get into the game when Van Gaal replaced him with Marouane Fellaini.

With only four goals all season, he has to work to do to stay at Old Trafford beyond the end of the season.

WORST: Angel Di Maria

6 of 6

Getting substituted at half-time against Sunderland brought Angel Di Maria's poor form to everyone's attention, but he's been struggling for weeks.

He made a blistering start to his United career with three goals in his first five games, but ever since, his form has disintegrated.

He has not been helped by the fact that Van Gaal repeatedly changes his position, but United need him to get back to something like his best if they're going to finish in the top four.
