Travis Kvapil's Stolen Sprint Cup Car Found in Georgia

Mike ChiariFeb 28, 2015

After several hours of searching, the strange saga of Travis Kvapil's stolen NASCAR Sprint Cup ride reached its conclusion early Saturday morning as the No. 44 car was recovered.

The Team Xtreme Racing Chevrolet was stolen from a hotel parking lot in Morrow, Georgia early Friday morning, according to ESPN.com's Bob Pockrass. Roughly one day later, it was found on the side of the road in Loganville, Georgia, per ESPN.com.

Team Xtreme Racing tweeted out two photos of the car after it was finally discovered:

After the No. 44 machine was stolen, Kvapil expressed concern about what being without the car might mean for Team Xtreme Racing and owner John Cohen, according to Jeff Gluck and Brant James of USA Today.

"There's a lot of money inside that little trailer right now," Kvapil said. "For the team's sake and John Cohen's sake, hopefully it can be recovered. Otherwise it would be a really, really huge setback for the team."

The story has a happy ending in one respect, but Team Xtreme was still adversely impacted since it was forced to pull out of Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, per Pockrass:

Since the car wasn't found in time to participate in qualifying, Kvapil and the entire team are sitting this one out.

Smaller racing teams are constantly facing monetary adversity, so the fact that the car was found means that Team Xtreme Racing lives to fight another day at the very least.

It certainly wasn't an ideal weekend in the Atlanta area, but perhaps this entire situation will cause more NASCAR fans to rally behind the underdog team as the 2015 season progresses. That alone could prove to be worth the trouble.
