Tigers Pick Up Aubrey Huff
I miss a lot of things being out here in Connecticut. I’m busier and it’s starting to take a toll on my Tigers time. So, many thanks to Rogo for shooting me a text today, making me aware of the Tigers latest trade.
The Tigers agreed to send minor league pitcher Brett Jacobson to the Baltimore Orioles for Aubrey Huff.
Huff is a powerful hitter from the left-handed side, something the Tigers have needed for as long as I can remember. Statistically, Huff is having his worst season since 2001. However, he still has 13 homers and 72 RBI.

Those 72 RBI would be good for the lead on the Tigers.
A versatile fielder, Huff has played the outfield, first base, and third base in his career. However, he’s spent all of his time as a DH and at first base this season. While he’s never going to win a Gold Glove playing third base, he’s a much better option over there than Ryan Raburn.
Sorry, Ryan.
Huff hit 32 HR and drove in a career-high 108 runs in 2008, so there’s still some serious clout in that bat. He is a career .290 hitter against both the White Sox and the Twins so it looks like he has the potential to do some damage against the Tigers competition.
Going the other way in this deal is Brett Jacobson, who is only 22 years old and profiles as a reliever. This season he’s played in Lakeland (A) and has an ERA of 3.74. Don’t be surprised if he gets a shot in the majors with the Orioles next season.
Huff will be a free agent when this season ends. No news yet on who will be bumped from the active roster to make room for Huff.
