Las Aguilas are going through a fantastic time. So far they have won four of their last Liga MX matches, plus they are unbeaten in the CONCACAF Champions League.
America advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-1-0 record and then went to secure a 0-3 win over Saprissa in the first leg.
Meanwhile, in the local league, Gustavo Matosas' side is two points behind the current leader, Tijuana. Xolos have grabbed 16 points despite losing once.
America's 0-1 victory over UNAM put them in second place, along with Cruz Azul.
This week Las Aguilas are set to face Universidad de Guadalajara, a squad that sits penultimate in the general table and have lost their last four games.
Actually, Leones Negros have only won once in the 2015 Clausura, against Monterrey in Matchday 1.
This is a fantastic opportunity for America to try and steal the lead. They have shown great skills in every line, although the attack is clearly the strongest.
Relegation race
The season started with Guadalajara's drama. Chivas were hanging by a thread and close to leaving the first division.
However, Leones Negros haven't been at their best, which has helped Guadalajara in their quest to staying in the Liga MX.
Although Chivas stunned Cruz Azul on Matchday 7, there's a lot of room for improvement. The team seems to be inarticulate.
They have to find the right balance between lines and play to their best level from the very first moment they step into the pitch.
Puebla are putting up a really good fight. So far they have a 3-2-2 record, which has set them as the sixth-best squad of the tournament.
Veracruz can't say they are put of the danger zone, but they have definitively understood what they have to do to stay.
Tiburones Rojos are the only undefeated team of the 2015 Clausura, and they sit fourth in the general table.
Top scorer
So far, Chiapas' Aviles Hurtado leads the top scorers' table with five goals in six appearances. However, the Colombian hasn't netted since Matchday 5.
Dayro Moreno, who grabbed four goals in his first four games, hasn't been able to keep the momentum going and is one goal behind Hurtado.
In the meantime, Veracruz's Julio Furch has put the ball away four times, his latest last week against Toluca.
America's forwards, Oribe Peralta and Dario Benedetto, are also lurking the top spot. They have four goals to their respective counts, although Benedetto has secured them all in the past four games.
Morelia's winless streak
Just as it happened during the 2014 Apertura, Morelia are sunk in a terrible winless streak, which has put them at the bottom of the general table again.
Monarcas have a 0-3-4 record, which includes two successive defeats (Matchdays 6 and 7). They haven't been able to take advantage of playing on home soil, and let's not start with their away games.
The last time they won was in last season's Week 15, against Monterrey.
Alfredo Tena took over the team this season, hoping to overturn the terrible results Monarcas had under Jose Cruz's command. However, the team sacked him last week.
Now, Roberto Hernandez has the responsibility to take the squad back to winning ways. The feat won't be easy; for starters they will meet Chiapas at Estadio Morelos on Friday.
| Matchday | Vs. | Venue | Score |
| 1 | Toluca | Home | 0-0 |
| 2 | Atlas | Away | 2-1 |
| 3 | Leon | Home | 0-0 |
| 4 | Tijuana | Away | 4-2 |
| 5 | America | Home | 2-2 |
| 6 | UANL | Away | 1-0 |
| 7 | Puebla | Home | 1-2 |
Victor Manuel Vucetich's debut
After a two-year hiatus and a two-game stint as Mexico's coach, Vucetich returns to coach in the Liga MX, this time with Queretaro.
The manager has been known as King Midas for his fantastic results. He holds five Liga MX titles, three CONCACAF Champions League trophies and one InterLiga.
Also, his organization and strategy could be the key that unlocks Ronaldinho's skills, as he is far from showing his true potential.
