Why Are You Fighting?

That's a hard question for Fury it seems, or perhaps it's just difficult deciphering his answer. In an interview with Kevin Garside of The Independent, Fury said this about his livelihood:

"

Let me tell you one thing. I’m a gypsy, no education, no schooling, nothing. I don’t care what people think of me. I don’t care about being a hero, a role model, a champion. I’m doing this for money and money alone. If I didn’t box again, who cares? I can’t stand it [boxing]. But I can’t think of another job that pays me five or six million a year.

"

While it appears Fury has his eye on the business aspect of the sport, his apparent lack of passion could hinder him as he tries to train properly and dedicate himself to his craft. While he's blessed with enormous size at 6'9" with an 85" reach, Fury still has some areas where he can improve.

His defense and stamina aren't elite, and both could be a potential problem for the 26-year-old against top fighters.

If he truly has designs on taking down Klitschko or even Hammer, Fury will need to find his love for the sport.

Calling His Shot

Hammer gives Fury credit for being a tough fighter, but he pulls no punches when he gives his prediction for Saturday's result. Per Harry Pratt of The Ring Magazine, Hammer said:

"

It’s show time on Saturday night! I’m here in London, nice and early, to finish my training and everything has gone perfect in camp. Fury will not go the distance against me. He will be getting knocked out clean and left to pick up the pieces after the fight. He cannot hurt me with his punches because I’m in the best shape of my career for this fight, and he will not last against me.

"

With only 10 knockouts to his credit and none in his last three fights, one should hesitate to trust Hammer's claim to be a heavy puncher. In the heavyweight division almost anyone packs a punch, but it'll likely take more than standard power to finish Fury.

In his career, Hammer has faced some recognizable names like Danny Williams, Kevin Johnson and Mariusz Wach. Only Wach was able to defeat Hammer. Even with those experiences, Hammer is still in for a unique challenge and a bout against an unusual talent. Will he be able to pull off the improbable win and play spoiler in Fury's plans?

Prediction

While Fury has shown a vulnerable chin and questionable stamina in the past, he's looked his sharpest in his last two bouts against Dereck Chisora and Joey Abell.

He's improving and simply too big for Hammer. The 6'2" challenger will be giving up seven inches in height and a wide margin in the reach department. Fury's jab will punish Hammer early and set up the TKO finish near the fifth round.
