Kansas City Chiefs Preview For 2009 NFL Season!
The Kansas City Chiefs had a horrible season last year. They finished 2-14 and last place in the division. They were 24th in total offense and 31st in overall defense. Their quarterback, Tyler Thigpen had a ok season last year, but not nearly good enough as the Chiefs wanted him to have. He threw for over 2500yds and tossed 18TDs, but also threw 12 Ints. To go along with the 12 Ints, he was also only completing 54% of his passes in 2008. Their running back, Larry Johnson had a disappointing season last year. He only rushed for 874yds and 5Tds. L.J. hasn't had a 1000 rushing yd season since 2006. He's had lots of injuries in the last two years that kept him out for awhile in the 2008 season. The Kansas City Chiefs tried to fix these problems in the off-season. They signed Matt Cassel to a 6 year deal for 63 million dollars. Matt Cassel was the Patriots quarterback last year. He was a back-up to Tom Brady until Brady got hurt last year, then Cassel took over as the starting quarterback. He led the Patriots to a 11-5 record. Cassel could be the one to lead the Chiefs to success. The Chiefs drafted 3 defensive players in the 2009 NFL Draft including a big defensive end, Tyson Jackson from LSU. The Chiefs also have a new coach a new system. The most important key success this year for the Chiefs is chemistry. If the Chiefs develop good team chemistry on both sides of the ball, look for a great season for the Chiefs. However, if the chiefs don't develop good chemistry on both sides of the ball, then the Chiefs are in for another long 2009 season. In the first preseason game of the season, Matt Cassel looked bad in his debut as a chief. In 4 series with the Chiefs, Cassel went 2 for 5 with 15yds passing. Cassel also lost a fumble as well. If Cassel has as much success as he had in New England, then the Chiefs could have a great season. However, I don't believe that will happen. Cassel is an inexperienced quarterback, who had some big receivers to help him out and lots of reliable receivers too. In Kansas City, it is much difficult. The Chiefs don't have as many reliable receivers as Cassel did in New England so it should be a lot harder for Cassel. I do believe the Chiefs will do well this year, but not good enough to get in the playoffs. I believe the Chiefs will finish 6-10 this year and 3rd in the division.
