Everybody Hurts: Sports Fans Who Take Losing Really Hard
While coaching the New York Jets, Herm Edwards famously said, "You play to win the game," reminding everyone the simplest thing about sports—winning is what it's all about.
And as sports fans, we all know too well about how much not winning can hurt.
Things like breaking glasses, putting holes in walls or, yes, even crying can occur, with others wondering why a sporting event can cause such behavior.
However such passion is shown, one thing is for sure, you never want it to be caught on camera. And if you need proof of that, just take a look at these YouTube sports fans who showed that losing is just way too hard.
Portland Timbers Fan
1 of 11Whomever it was who made this video deserves an award, because there isn't a more appropriate song than REM's "Everybody Hurts" to describe the feeling this Portland Timbers fan is going through.
Watching his team losing, 1-0, to Real Salt Lake and trailing in the aggregate goal department by a three-goal margin, you can see the pain and frustration just pour out of him with each passing second.
After visiting Portland this past weekend, this guy surely visited one of the many breweries to help sulk away the loss.
Chicago Bears Fan
2 of 11One of the biggest rivalries in sports, anytime the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers get together, it's an old-school battle that leaves players a little bit more black and blue for the next couple of days.
This Chicago Bears fan found out that's the case for fans of the losing team, too.
While making a trip to Lambeau Field to see her Bears play, she had hoped for the best and forgot about the worst, as she was found sulking in tears after Chicago lost on the frozen tundra, leaving her with a few icicles beneath her eyes.
Young San Francisco 49ers Fan
3 of 11First off, can someone tell me why this kid was watching the Super Bowl between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers in nothing but his boxer-briefs? It's a little weird, don't you think?
What's not weird is being a soon-to-be teenager and finding out that your favorite team—in this case, the Niners—just lost the biggest game of their lives, and there's no guaranteeing that you'll ever get to see them play in a game that big again.
Naturally, the kid cries—c'mon, we've all been there.
Cleveland Browns Fan

Being a Cleveland Browns fan can be extremely, frustratingly difficult—trust me, I know firsthand.
Even with all the years of sadness, disappointment and dysfunction, though, I'm not sure I would go as far as to publicly rip the team a new one as this fellow Dawg Pound member did.
Announcing his low expectations for the team by saying stuff like, "We don't expect you to win the Super Bowl; we just want you to look better than a Division-III high school team," he rips them a new one in this video.
Seeing as how the Browns are looking for, yet another quarterback, according to Northeast Ohio Media Group's Mary Ann Cabot, and under investigation for texts to coaches during games, I'm sure this dude is still fuming mad.
Young John Cena Fan

After ordering a pay-per-view to watch WrestleMania XXVII a couple of years ago, this young John Cena fan didn't react too well when Cena lost to The Miz in the main event.
Immediately after seeing his guy get pinned, the kid yells at the TV, throws his hat to the ground as any pissed off fan would and runs toward the kitchen table to let the tears fall.
I wonder if he knows that wrestling is actually scripted?
Clemson Tigers Fan
6 of 11Another absolute classic, when the cameras caught this Clemson Tigers fan crying, alone, in the stands following his team losing, it became Internet gold.
Seeing his team was toast against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in 2009, he didn't care who was watching or what might be said, because he just let the tears fall like rain.
Feeling hopeless and upset, this dude was just keeping it real.
Ole Miss Rebels Fan

College is the best time of anyone's life.
In addition to being alone and having the freedom to make grown-up decisions, Saturdays in the fall bring some of the best memories ever—even if none of us can remember them because of the booze.
This Ole Miss Rebels fan appears to have found out that she should have probably laid off the alchy a little bit, because, following her team's loss to the LSU Tigers, she went on a temper tantrum, balling as if she found out that her boyfriend had just broken up with her for another girl.
Football down south is like life and death, and this only proves that.
Young Brazilian Soccer Fan
8 of 11The World Cup is the biggest sports tournament on the planet—yes, even bigger and more popular than the Olympics.
So when it comes around every four years, the pain of seeing your favorite team get eliminated doesn't just stick with a fan for a few days or weeks, but for over 1,400 days until the next one is played.
After seeing his Brazilian team getting humiliated on their home turf in last summer's World Cup, this poor little guy was unable to keep it together, forced to wipe away tears during the blowout.
This came when El Selecao was losing, 4-0, imagine how shattered his little heart was when the final tally ended at 7-1.
Alabama Crimson Tide Fan
9 of 11It's like you can almost tell the exact words these two Alabama Crimson Tide fans are saying to one another after losing to the LSU Tigers back in 2011.
Girl: "Why are you sad? We can still win."
Guy: "No. I need another beer."
Realizing her dude is crying in the stands for a reason, the Tide girl appears to slam her hand against the padding in frustration, silencing the "Roll Tide" chants for at least one night.
Young San Diego Chargers Fan
10 of 11No joke, when the camera picks up the tears from this kid, it made me think that someone had just lost a family member.
Unfortunately for the kid, though—and maybe even tougher to cope with—he was just witnessing his favorite team, the San Diego Chargers, lose to the Oakland Raiders.
Seeing how Oakland hasn't been too great for over a decade now, this one stings.
It probably doesn't sting as much as becoming a YouTube sensation and getting razzed by friends for having a near panic attack because your favorite NFL team lost to the Raiders, though.
And doing it alone in the dark makes it that much more depressing for the youngster. Don't worry, there will be better days, kid.
New York Giants Fan
11 of 11Editor's Note: Video contains strong, NSFW language.
In my lifetime—which spans 30-plus years—there might not be a better video of a crying sports fan that I have ever seen.
Sure, it's fun to have a lighthearted laugh at the rest of these that I've shown you, but this New York Giants fan absolutely takes the cake.
With the heartbreaking reality that his Giants weren't going to repeat as champions during the 2008 season, this apparently intoxicated dude became an Internet sensation for a vulgar rant about how he still believed that the G-Men were the best team in the NFL that year.
Some people turn to drink away their sorrows, but I really hope if this guy was imbibing, he just passed out and slept it off.
