Cleveland Browns Woes Continue; There Was a No QB Sighting In Lambeau

Paul MongeraAug 16, 2009

This just in... There was no Quarterback sighted from the Cleveland Browns as they took on the Packers Saturday night. This was quite evident as reports come in, as the Browns managed to put up a whopping zero points on the scoreboard. Green Bay officials complained, that if you were not going to score, why did you waste our time and money to even put the Browns name on the scoreboard. They could of been more energy efficient and saved on lightbulbs as the zero remained illuminated all night.

Ok, enough with the comedy, as there was plenty of that last night. Is it me, or do the 2009 Browns look an awful like the 2008 Browns? I keep reading and hearing give Quinn his chance. He got it, and came up empty. ZERO, Na Da, Zilch. One nice drive that ended as usual a Phil Dawson attempt. Thanks to a Fraley holding call the only chance at points was negated as normally trustworthy Dawson missed wide right from 41 yards. Now, I would usually call myself a Derek Anderson supporter. But, in reality I just want what's best for the Browns. The one thing to me that is starting to become evident is, neither are the answer. Here is why the Browns will look like the Lions from last year.

The first reason is this so called QB competetion. If we are going to in fact have a competition, lets make it equal Quinn was 7-11 for 68 yards with a crucial pick in the end zone. Anderson 0-2 for 0 yards and a pick, but if you watched the game it was due to him being hit. A common theme from last year, poor pass protection. If you disagree with poor coverage. Reference Week 17 last year when we had to sign a QB to start, as we were on our 4th string QB. People complain Quinn has never got a chance. But did Anderson last night. The both got two drives a piece but look at the stats. Seems to me Anderson should be up in arms asking for his opportunity. I mean afterall he was a Pro Bowl QB.

Last night was filled with inconsistent play, horrible tackling, and yes Browine fans bad timed penalties that resulted in the Packers scoring 2 TD's. If you don't know what a TD is, it is a touch down. Something us Browns fans have not seen in a long, long, long time. Oh, did I mention lack of defensive discipline. Especially Elam, everyone knows that a Safety should never let the offense get behind them. Well it happened and it quickly put us in a hole, when Driver drove past the Browns so called "D" for a 53 yard score. His one catch was roughly 25% of all the yards managed by the Browns last night. Seems to me that those penalty laps in practice are really paying off.

Another common thread was our lack of run stop defense. Now I understand Rogers did not dress. He is about the only defensive player on our team that the offense has to respect. I mean come on, they are supposed to be professionals. Mangina needs to get this fixed quick. We can ill afford to give up 230 yards on the ground. I guess that's what we get when Mangini brings in a bunch of mediocre at best players from his last failure in New York.

Is anyone else tired of the term "rebuilding"? You see I am from Pennsylvania (Erie) and I have to here those obnoxious Steeler fans on a consistent basis. I mean 10 years is a long time to rebuild. I mean they work slower than our PENNDOT highway workers. We as Browns fans almost have to stop viewing the Steelers as a rival. Not that I don't want to use that term. But rivalries usually mean we win some of those games. It kills me to say it but who can we beat in the AFC North. If this continues we will be 0-6 in our division just like 3 years ago. Can anyone say, we have what it takes to beat the defending Champs? How bout the Ravens and their swarming defense. And even the Bungles have Carson Palmer back, so there is about 40+ points he will put up against our pourous defense. In short.... "Houston, we have a problem." Crennel's 4-12 season may not be that bad. Because if we play like we did last night, we will not see 4 wins all year. P.S. I hope I am wrong. But those numbers don't lie.
