2015 Westminster Dog Show: Best in Show Winner and More from Annual Event

Scott PolacekFeb 18, 2015

Today, Canada celebrates.

Our northerly neighbors are likely dancing in the streets after the monumental 2015 Best in Show win for four-year-old beagle Ch Tashtins Lookin For Trouble in the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

Ch Tashtins Lookin For Trouble, better known as Miss P, captured the affection of the Madison Square Garden crowd during Tuesday’s event and won the crown in what could only be considered an upset based on the loaded field.

Charlie is the formidable Skye terrier who took home the Reserve Best in Show honors as the runner-up, but Swagger, an Old English sheepdog, made waves as a crowd favorite based on the amount of cheering. Swagger placed second at Westminster in 2013, so experience was a factor.

Among the other contenders was Matisse, a Portuguese water dog and a legend in the show dog world. Matisse is related to President Barack Obama's family pet Sunny and is the top-winning male in show dog history with 238 titles. It's not every day the Tom Brady of the show dog world doesn’t capture a victory, especially since Matisse won the working group at Westminster for the third consecutive year.

Alas, it was Miss P’s day, and the Canadian-born dog won her 20th Best in Show in the United States.

Westminster Dog Show passed along some tweets after the victory:

She may not be related to the Obamas' family pet, but Miss P has some notable family of her own. She is the grandniece of Uno, who won the Westminster Best in Show in 2008.

Interestingly, Uno owner Caroline Dowell had something to say after Miss P’s victory, according to The Associated Press, via the Chicago Tribune: ''She's not quite the showman that Uno is, but I'm a little prejudiced. There aren't many dogs that are. Uno could go in the show ring right now and do what he did up there at Westminster."

That may be true for Uno, but Tuesday was Miss P's time to shine.

ESPN Stats & Info noted that beagles don't have a storied history at this event, so Tuesday’s victory turned even more heads than it normally would have:

Perhaps most importantly, a victory for a beagle puts America’s favorite cartoon version of the breed back in the spotlight.

ESPN’s Paul Carr didn't miss the opportunity to give Snoopy a shoutout after Miss P’s dramatic win Tuesday:

Next up for the victorious Miss P is the victory tour, per The Associated Press. While she may not get a parade like the New England Patriots did after winning the Super Bowl, she will appear on a number of morning television shows, meet Donald Trump, eat lunch at a nice Manhattan restaurant and make a brief appearance in a Broadway musical.

I’m sure Miss P is thrilled and can't wait to accomplish what has to be a lifelong dream of meeting Mr. Trump.

Miss P started chewing the championship ribbon after she was declared the victor and will likely retire from competition after capturing the crown in the most famous dog show in the country.

Talk about finding a way to go out on top. Don’t be surprised, though, when she attempts a comeback and ends up in a Washington Wizards uniform in a couple of years.
