Russell Westbrook Sets NBA All-Star Game Record for Points in a Half with 27
Somebody forgot to tell Russell Westbrook he doesn't have to take the All-Star Game seriously.
The Oklahoma City Thunder point guard had a monster first half, scoring 27 points on 11-of-15 shooting. ESPN.com's Royce Young noted that Westbrook broke the record for most points in one half of an All-Star Game.
According to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, Kyrie Irving and Glen Rice were the co-owners of the previous best, 24 points.
Westbrook ended up scoring 41 points, second most in All-Star history behind Wilt Chamberlain's 42 in 1962.
Although Westbrook's point total was impressive, the efficiency with which he scored those 27 points was absurd:
Thunder teammate Kendrick Perkins was a bit upset Western Conference head coach Steve Kerr didn't keep Westbrook out there longer:
After the game, LeBron James had some lofty praise for Westbrook, per CBS Sports' NBA Twitter account:
Westbrook ended up winning game MVP for his efforts in the Western Conference's 163-158 win over the Eastern Conference.
