Therefore, it is no surprise that he strongly sympathises with young Stoke player Oliver Shenton, who came on for his debut near the end of City's 4-1 win at the Britannia on Wednesday night.
Shenton, still only 17, lost his own mother to breast cancer just two weeks go.
Lampard was all class at the final whistle, though, when he heard Shenton's story.
As per The Independent:
"The former England midfielder spoke with Stoke striker Peter Crouch at the full-time, who pointed Shenton out as they left the pitch.
Lampard walked over to the teenager to speak to him, and made a point out of swapping shirts with him as they made their way towards the tunnel.
