International Bowl 2015 Results: Score, Highlights and Reaction

Mike ChiariFeb 7, 2015

Brimming with talented players set to compete in major college football next season, Team USA convincingly defeated Team Canada Saturday 35-0 in the 2015 Under-19 International Bowl at Maverick Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at Arlington.

The Americans entered the game as heavy favorites, and they certainly didn't disappoint, as they put on an excellent all-around performance.

As seen in this photo courtesy of USA Football on Instagram, the players seemed extremely excited to represent the Stars and Stripes:

Perhaps that had something to do with the motivational tactics of their head coach. According to Josh Barnett of USA Today, Allen High School (Allen, Texas) and Team USA coach Tom Westerburg stressed the importance of representing the United States well:

"

I'm excited about it. It's my job as the head coach to make sure the kids are excited about it. They're playing for the United States, but they're also representing their families and home schools. When you get to a game like this, there are a lot of things to look forward to, to play well, act right and representing all the people they are people representing ... There are a couple of kids that have played for USA Football and we'll get those guys to talk about what it's like to play for your country. I'm sure the rest of these guys are pretty excited.

"

Westerburg's words seemed to resonate with the team as a whole, and with starting quarterback Ryan Boyle in particular:

Boyle is a 3-star Iowa commit who ranks as the No. 25 dual-threat quarterback in the nation, per 247Sports. Despite his excitement to get the game rolling, he and the American offense came out a bit flat.

According to Football Canada, Boyle was picked off on the opening Team USA possession by Canadian defensive back Cole Christianson:

Team Canada was unable to capitalize on the turnover, though, which allowed the Americans to regroup and adjust offensively.

The United States got on the board first in the opening quarter when wide receiver Devontre Stricklin brought in a 16-yard touchdown catch from Boyle, per the U.S. National Team's official Twitter account:

Stricklin is a supremely talented, 3-star Baylor commit, according to 247Sports. As it turns out, that touchdown catch was merely the start of what would be a big day for him.

The United States carried a 7-0 lead into the second quarter, but the Americans soon marched toward another score by virtue of a 33-yard grab by Stricklin, per EJ Holland of The Dallas Morning News:

Shortly after that, quarterback Riley Neal found wide receiver Ben Glines for a touchdown to put Team USA up 14-0:

Neal is an intriguing 3-star, pro-style quarterback who's committed to Ball State, while Glines is a 3-star wideout who will play his college ball at Boston College, according to 247Sports.

While both Stricklin and Glines made some big plays to put Team USA on top, yet another dynamic pass-catcher stepped up in the latter part of the second quarter.

Jalen Guyton, who plays under Westerburg at Allen High School as well, started to take over and torch the Team Canada defensive backs. The 3-star Notre Dame commit, per 247Sports, started with a 33-yard catch to set up another score:

As it turns out, Guyton was the one who found paydirt as well from five yards out:

That touchdown gave the United States a 21-0 lead, which would be Canada's deficit entering halftime.

Team USA's dominant defense kept Canada off the board in the first half, but in the second half, it widened the United States' commanding lead.

With Canada seemingly driving for its first score of the game, defensive back Prentice McKinney intercepted a pass and returned it 80 yards for a touchdown:

McKinney is a 3-star prospect and the No. 27 safety in the class of 2015, per 247Sports. He has committed to Oklahoma and certainly provided Sooners fans with a glimpse of what he could do at the collegiate level.

That put the Americans in firm control at 28-0, but Canada started to threaten once again by virtue of a long kick return by running back Kayden Johnson:

Unfortunately for the Canadians, they were unable to cash in on the excellent field position. Although the game was essentially already decided at that point, getting on the board would have been a moral victory at the very least.

Shortly thereafter in the fourth quarter, Team USA put the contest away for good when Boyle connected with tight end Tyler Petite from 28 yards out:

Petite was among the top talents on Team USA as a 4-star prospect and the No. 9 tight end in the nation, according to 247Sports. The USC commit showed elite skill on his scoring grab, which put the United States ahead 35-0.

After putting on a fine performance and doing their country proud, the Team USA players will undoubtedly continue preparations for the 2015 college football season.

This was likely the final opportunity for many of them to showcase their skills before going off to college, and they went out on a high note.

If their showing on Saturday is any indication, they all have very bright futures in major college football.
