Breaking Down the Top Players in the International Bowl
Team USA: Ryan Boyle, QB
The key to any team’s success is the play of the quarterback, and Team USA has an advantage at the position with talented prospect Ryan Boyle from Dowling Catholic High School in Urbandale, Iowa.
According to USAFootball.com, Boyle was voted as the Iowa Gatorade Player of the Year in his junior season and helped lead his team to the Iowa Class 4-A state championship. With similar pressure at the International Bowl, Boyle’s experience will be invaluable.
In Boyle’s 247Sports profile, he is the fifth-ranked prospect in the state of Iowa and the 25-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the composite rankings. The 6’2” and 205 pound quarterback will need to be at his best Saturday against a tough Team Canada.
How quickly Boyle finds his rhythm with the unfamiliar wide receivers and running backs will be the biggest test, but his big-game experience will be a major asset in this situation.
Team Canada: Trivel Pinto, WR
For the second year in a row, Team Canada wide receiver Trivel Pinto will take part in the International Bowl Under-19 Game. Last year, he earned the Canadian player of the game award, according to FootballCanada.com.
While Pinto’s numbers aren’t overly impressive, measuring just 6’0” and 175 pounds with a 4.6 seconds 40-yard dash time (h/t ovflontario.com), his physicality on the field and willingness to contribute on offense and special teams make him one of the most dangerous players on the team.
After watching Pinto amass 70 all-purpose yards last year against Team USA under the bright lights of the game, it is clear the stage doesn’t scare him. The Americans must be looking to double cover or at least offer safety help to the cornerback covering Pinto Saturday.
If Team Canada head coach Warren Craney gets Pinto involved through the air and in the return game, the dynamic prospect will make an impact on the matchup whether the team wins or loses.
