Dean Ambrose Pursuing Intercontinental Championship Is Best Possible Option
The WWE world title scene is congested right now, and the best-case scenario for popular Superstar Dean Ambrose will be challenging Bad News Barrett for the Intercontinental Championship.
When Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns were out with injuries, the WWE gave Ambrose the opportunity to run with the big dogs in the main event scene, and he thrived under the pressure, delivering intense matches and even better promos.
Unfortunately, the line to get a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship is filled with the likes of Reigns, Bryan and Mr. Money in the Bank Seth Rollins, but that doesn’t mean Ambrose still cannot make an impact at Fast Lane and WrestleMania 31.

The Lunatic Fringe is still immensely popular among hardcore and casual wrestling fans, and it wasn’t too long ago that his merchandise was at the top of the sales chart for the company, per Darren Rovell of ESPN:
Wrestling fans appreciate hard work. While it looks like Reigns is being handed the keys to the kingdom despite his inability to speak well and his struggles to construct a longer singles match, Ambrose has all of the things that Reigns lacks, and he could easily be in the main event. Just like the WWE Universe feels Bryan is being passed over for Reigns, the same can be thought about Ambrose.
Instead of being lost in the shuffle chasing the world title, Ambrose has turned his attention to Barrett and the IC title. While there is no doubting the in-ring talent of Ambrose, Barrett deserves an immense amount of credit as one of the more impressive big-man workers in the company today.
Barrett knows how to tell a story in the ring. If it wasn’t for the porous recent booking that called for the champion to take clean losses against what feels like every jobber on the roster, the WWE Universe would be treated to one of the most dynamic performers today.
When Ambrose and Barrett step in the ring together, the two men will realize the magnitude of the opportunity given to them and step up their game. With each star bringing their best in the ring and on the mic in order to make a case for a run with the world title further down the line, Barrett and Ambrose should be able to fuel each and put on show-stealing matches.
The two men have the potential to put on a series of interesting and brutal battles in the ring, but WWE must properly book the storyline. The possible Intercontinental Championship matches between Ambrose and Barrett would bolster both the Fast Lane and the WrestleMania PPV cards but only if the angle makes sense and helps both wrestlers look like legitimate stars.
Not only would Ambrose help bring out the best in Barrett and give the fans a program they can become emotionally invested in, but he would also begin to legitimize the Intercontinental Championship, something that has been forgotten over the last several years.
With only one world championship in the company now, the importance of the IC title cannot be ignored any longer. It is the second most important belt in WWE, and booking a marquee feud between Ambrose and Barrett would once again bring legitimacy to a belt with such a storied history.
Ambrose should emerge from this long-term feud with the title. After disposing of Barrett in a three-PPV series of matches and earning the company’s second most important belt, he would have a case to make as one of the next challengers for the top championship.
If Ambrose is wearing the Intercontinental Championship and challenging to get into the WWE World Heavyweight Championship scene, fans will begin viewing the IC title as the stepping stone for the company’s primary title. It would be no different than the Big Gold belt in the past, acting as the testing ground for future main event stars.
Without a doubt, Ambrose is one of the most talented all-around performers in the business and has support from the majority of the WWE Universe. While he should be fighting for the world title sooner rather than later, taking the Intercontinental Championship off of Barrett is a great first step toward becoming one of the top stars in the business.
As WrestleMania 31 approaches, fans should be excited to see Ambrose in a marquee feud against Barrett for the IC title instead of being left out in the cold in a meaningless storyline that ultimately leads nowhere.
Ambrose is just too good not to be a main focal point of WWE moving forward.
