Alabama Junior Day 2015: Offers and News from Crimson Tide Recruiting Event
The Alabama Crimson Tide held a Junior Day over the weekend to ensure that their elite recruiting continues in the coming years under legendary coach Nick Saban.
Many top prospects from the 2016 and 2017 recruiting classes made the trip to Tuscaloosa, taking in the unique atmosphere that surrounds the SEC's preeminent powerhouse program.
AL.com's Drew Champlin reports that 11 players received scholarship offers, including one who already committed to LSU in offensive lineman Donavaughn Campbell. The 3-star guard is the 13th-ranked player at his position in 247Sports' composite rankings for 2016.
Check out the complete list of prospects that were granted the chance to suit up for the Crimson Tide at the next level:
| OLB Jamal Couch | Central High School (Phenix City, Alabama) | — |
| QB J.J. Jones | McAdory High School (McCalla, Alabama) | — |
| QB/ATH Tadarryl Marshall | Leeds High School (Leeds, Alabama) | 4 |
| OLB P.J. Blue | Jemison High School (Jemison, Alabama) | 4 |
| OG Donavaughn Campbell | Ponchatoula High School (Ponchatoula, Louisiana) | 3 |
| OLB Jaleel Laguins | Oconee County High School (Watkinsville, Georgia) | 4 |
| OLB Markail Benton | Central High School (Phenix City, Alabama) | 4 |
| RB/ATH Alaric Williams | Southside High School (Ashville, Alabama) | 4 |
| ATH/RB Malcolm Askew | McAdory High School (McCalla, Alabama) | — |
| RB/LB Will Ignont | Buckhorn High School (New Market, Alabama) | — |
| DE Malik Herring | Mary Persons High School (Forsyth, Georgia) | 4 |
One intriguing potential addition is quarterback J.J. Jones. The dual-threat dynamo could be the type of playmaking talent Alabama has lacked under center in recent years. Jones has boasted he can throw the ball 70 yards and runs a 40-yard dash in the 4.5-second range, so he’s one to watch moving forward.
To cut back to Campbell for a second, it would be interesting to see him flip to Alabama. Saban used to coach at LSU and would be scoring a lineman listed at 6'5" and 340 pounds.
With the proper coaching, someone as big as Campbell could become a star for the Tide. The team has often sported a massive offensive line to drive its physical rushing attack, and Campbell definitely fits the bill in that regard.
While that was probably the most notable news to come out of the Junior Day event, there were others who embraced the opportunity at hand.
Alaric Williams, a 4-star athlete in the class of 2017, expressed gratitude for the scholarship offer and praised the Alabama coaching staff:
Kobe Jones is a 4-star defensive tackle from Starkville, Mississippi, who's at least considering spurning Mississippi State in favor of the Tide after meeting with Saban:
Alabama defensive line coach Bo Davis and running backs coach Burton Burns made an impression on 4-star RB Cam Akers:
A strong infrastructure is in place for Alabama to continue thriving. It is evident that Saban and the staff around him are committed to building a winner to last.
Bleacher Report's Lars Anderson weighed in on just how great Saban is at bringing in top-tier talent:
Armed with the top crop of prospects in 247Sports' hierarchy of the incoming 2015 freshmen, the Tide appear destined for success as long as Saban stays at the helm. And there is little reason for him to leave.
Few programs can afford the luxury of hosting something like a Junior Day and attract the sheer number of big-name prospects from as far as two years down the road. The lure of Alabama is a brand Saban has taken pride in building. His refusal to settle for anything less than a real national championship chance every year will continue bringing in blue-chip players by the truckload.
After falling a bit short in the inaugural College Football Playoff, the 2015 campaign and beyond looks as though it's set up for the Tide to reload and continue their dynastic reign atop the SEC and college football.
