Super Bowl Ads 2015: Highlighting Instant Classics and Fan-Favorite Ads

Donald WoodFeb 3, 2015

The 2015 Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks was one of the most entertaining championships in recent memory, but many non-football fans were more enamored by the commercials.

While many years in the past featured advertising that utilized comedy to sell products, there was an influx of emotionally driven commercials that made the consumer think, reflect and, in some cases, even cry.

Here are the best advertisements from the 2015 Super Bowl.

Snickers Wins the Day with Danny Trejo

There wasn’t nearly as much humor as the fans watching at home were looking for this year, but Snickers saved the day with one of the funniest ads imaginable.

Using the company’s typical storyline of a person needing Snickers to quench their hunger and stop acting out of character, the candy-maker replaced Marsha Brady with action-movie star Danny Trejo on the set of the classic TV show, The Brady Bunch.

Wielding an axe, Trejo acts just like Marsha did during the classic episode of The Brady Bunch that featured her getting her nose broken by a football. After threatening revenge on Peter, Trejo sticks the axe in the coffee table out of anger before Mrs. Brady hands him a Snickers bar to make it all better.

The kicker is an appearance by acting legend Steve Buscemi as Jan, who throws a typical tantrum to close the commercial. For those who remember The Brady Bunch show, this was a great call back and a very funny advertisement.

Budweiser Hits Another Home Run

There were several emotional commercials during the Super Bowl, but the best overall story told was the journey of a small dog in Budweiser’s Lost Dog advertising campaign.

It is clear that the dog has a relationship with both the man taking care of it and one of the trademark Budweiser Clydesdale horses. After accidentally getting into the horse wagon, the dog gets lost. In this short time, the commercial has already taken the viewer for a ride.

The dog eventually finds his way all the way back to the farm where he lives, but is stalked by a hungry wolf with the intention of eating the puppy. Just as all hope looks lost, the Clydesdales appear and save the dog.

Add in a heart-warming reunion with the owner at the end, and this commercial took the consumer on an emotional roller coaster that left an impact after only one minute. This was effective advertising.

Loctite Glue Goes for Laughs

After shedding a few tears at the previous Budweiser commercials, football fans were treated to one of the weirdest dance parties in history during the Loctite Glue advertisement.

Featuring an infectious groove and plenty of less-than-qualified dancers wearing Loctite fanny packs, this commercial was simply there to make the consumer smile and laugh out loud as normal people dance in hilarious ways.

The team behind this advertising campaign understood that they were selling glue and didn’t want to take it too seriously. During a game that featured some deep and thoughtful content, the Loctite commercial was a reprieve for the fans who wanted to keep the game light-hearted.
