Emmanuel Adebayor Transfer Rumours: Latest News and Gossip on Tottenham Star

Gianni VerschuerenFeb 2, 2015

Tottenham Hotspur star Emmanuel Adebayor could still leave the club on transfer deadline day, with several outlets reporting an interest from West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Queens Park Rangers in the past few days.

According to MailOnline Sport's Neil Ashton, the striker has already ruled out a move to QPR, while the Daily Mirror's Darren Lewis reports the Togo international has also declined a move to the Eagles:

The Hammers appear to be the latest London-based club pushing to sign the powerful striker, with BBC Sport's Ben Smith reporting the club are looking at a loan deal with an option to make the move permanent:

The 30-year-old has scored just twice in nine Premier League starts for Spurs during the 2014-15 campaign, according to WhoScored.com, and he hasn't been a regular starter for Mauricio Pochettino's side since October.

The emergence of star youngster Harry Kane made the veteran forward all but expendable, and as Adebayor is one of the top earners at the club, per ESPN FC's James Tyler, it's understandable Tottenham are looking to offload him:

It remains to be seen whether West Ham will be able to convince the striker a move to east London is a good idea. According to Lewis, it's unclear whether the Togolese forward is open to the idea of joining the Hammers:

Despite his high wages, his physicality makes him a valuable asset coming off of the bench in matches where Spurs are desperate for a late goal. Cashing in and clearing his wages makes sense—a loan move that doesn't net the club a significant loan fee does not.

Adebayor is under contract until the end of the 2015-16 season, per Sky Sports, so if Tottenham want any kind of return on their initial investment, the time for a move would be now.

A loan deal with a permanent option in winter or a permanent move in summer guarantees Spurs aren't faced with the prospect of letting him walk for free, but once summer has passed, it's unlikely teams will be willing to put a significant transfer fee on the table for a striker who is yet to find the net with any consistency in the current campaign.

His lack of production in 2014-15 is likely the biggest obstacle to a potential move; while plenty of teams are always looking for a veteran striker to help their side in midseason, it makes little sense to pay someone hefty wages without the prospect of plenty of goals on the horizon.

QPR appeared to be the most likely destination, and with Adebayor not signing off on that move, it's a long shot the forward will be leaving Tottenham on Monday. West Ham are still an option, but it's unlikely to materialise in time.
