Best Super Bowl Commercials 2015: Funniest Ads Aired During Patriots vs Seahawks

If viewers watched the Super Bowl seeking a steady stream of uplifting commercials, they likely walked away from the television in disappointment. Only a small group of funny ads were sprinkled in during the New England Patriots' victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

Instead, it was a year where sobering and sometimes downright doom-and-gloom spots were the preferred choice for advertisers. Perhaps the marketing teams thought it would allow them to stand out and instead made them blend in.

There were still some commercials worth a laugh, though. Expectations for the Super Bowl commercials are so high that it's tough to blow anybody away anymore, but even a good, solid ad can do wonders for a company given the large audience. Let's check out some of the best.

Snickers

Danny Trejo, Steve Buscemi and a flashback from The Brady Bunch rolled into the same ad. It's a recipe for marketing gold if handled correctly, and Snickers pulled it off. And it did so while still keeping within its general concept over the past few years.

The reason it works well is because the modern additions to the decades-old show fit in seamlessly. The nostalgia factor is also in play with the shot of the Brady's home and Marcia's nose getting hit by the football. John Wawrow of the Associated Press thought it was a home run:

Buscemi enters the fray late in the role of Jan Brady. He belts out the famous "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia" line perfectly before storming off. That really took the commercial, which was already solid, to another level. Perhaps the best of the evening.

TurboTax

Tax season is right around the corner, making the Super Bowl a perfect time to strike. TurboTax came through with a new version of the Boston Tea Party—with a New England team involved in the big game no less—that brings the sides together.

The spot even has a narrator concede at the end, "OK, so maybe that's not exactly how it went down," to remind everybody that it's only a joke. A unique take on a big moment in American history isn't always warmly received. This one did well enough to get a thumbs up from Adweek:

Perhaps the spot could have used a little more star power to generate buzz. Otherwise, it was a lighthearted flashback with some nice tie-ins to the game itself. Worth a chuckle, especially given the lack of that type of approach this year.

BMW

This was a very creative idea. Traveling back to 1994 when Bryant Gumbel and Katie Couric were trying the fathom the groundbreaking idea known as the Internet is an amazing sight. BMW then does a good job of quickly shifting the focus to its new i3 model.

Now? The commercial has racked up around 12.5 million views on YouTube and counting. It shows how much things can change over time. Longtime journalist Larry King has remained a constant presence throughout the last 20 years and thought BMW had the best ad:

Ultimately, the ad competition is quite fierce during the Super Bowl. It would be hard to find a consensus since everybody has different taste. But BMW definitely came up with something both extremely interesting and worth a laugh.
