Chelsea Transfer News: Latest Juan Cuadrado and Andre Schurrle Deadline Rumours
Chelsea and Fiorentina have reportedly ironed out the final details preventing Juan Cuadrado from completing his transfer to Stamford Bridge, but the situation regarding Andre Schurrle’s future with the Blues remains somewhat unclear.
According to GianlucaDiMarzio.net, Chelsea have agreed to pay a “solidarity clause” in order to land the Colombian international, and that was the last obstacle preventing any potential deal.
The Daily Telegraph (h/t Ashley Birch of Squawka) claim the winger will now put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the Premier League leaders.

Here’s a look at what Chelsea will be getting for their money:
Cuadrado will bring an effervescent edge to this Blues side, one which they’ve been without for large parts of the season. Players like Eden Hazard, Willian and Schurrle have been deployed in wide berths so far this campaign, but none of them are what you would bracket as orthodox wingers.
The Colombian certainly is, though.

As noted by Bleacher Report’s Sam Tighe (h/t uMAXit Football), the winger is an upgrade on current first-choice right midfielder Willian:
Tighe also ran the rule over Cuadrado in detail ahead of the January window:
Cuadrado has all the attributes to be a big success at Chelsea. His unrelenting industry up and down the right flank will certainly endear him to Jose Mourinho, but it’s the stuff he can do with the ball at his feet that will surely thrill the Stamford Bridge faithful.
As noted by WhoScored.com, the former Udinese man loves running with the ball:
The deal for Cuadrado should pave the way for Schurrle’s move to Wolfsburg, and despite some concerns surrounding the transfer, Ben Smith of the BBC has claimed that the player has agreed personal terms ahead of a potential switch:
There could yet be a glitch in this deal it would seem, though. Speaking at a press conference in Germany, the club’s sporting director, Klaus Allofs, has claimed the fee that Chelsea are currently demanding is in excess of what they can afford.
“We want to achieve our goals and that is why we want to sign Schurrle”, said Allofs, per Michael Butler of The Guardian. “But we have clear limits, we only go so far and not any further than that.”

You suspect that this deal will eventually be concluded, but it looks as though the two clubs still remain a fair way off in terms of the respective valuations of the German international. Once this deal has been confirmed, that should be the trigger for Chelsea to finalise their move for Cuadrado.
As we can see here courtesy of Bleacher Report UK, Wolfsburg have included Schurrle on the DFL transfers list, meaning they could potentially complete a deal later in the day:
It looks as though it could be a perfect move for a player who has been resigned to a bit-part role at Stamford Bridge. Wolfsburg are an outfit who boast heady ambitions, and as we saw in earnest during their recent 4-1 demolition of German champions Bayern Munich, they have a host of classy players at their disposal.
Schurrle would come into this team and occupy a key role too. During his time with Bayer Leverkusen, he shone in an advanced role on the left-hand side, and you suspect that’s the position he would occupy on a regular basis at the Volkswagen Arena if the two clubs can settle on a transfer fee.
