Ings-Liverpool Deal Likely to Receive Premier League Go-Ahead
Tuesday, Feb. 3
Ian Herbert of The Independent believes the Premier League "are likely to conclude that any agreement Liverpool reach to sign Burnley's Danny Ings in the next few weeks will not damage the integrity of the competition, despite the possibility of the 21-year-old (sic 22-year-old) lining up at Anfield on 4 March."
He continues:
"Burnley refused to sanction the player’s departure in the January window, as he is vital to their fight for top flight survival. But the Lancashire club were concerned that the England Under-21 international’s mindset would be adversely affected by continued uncertainty about his future.
"
Jamie Sanderson of the Metro reports Ings is "on the brink" of agreeing a summer move to Anfield. It is suggested that, while the transfer would be on a free, Liverpool would be ordered to pay "compensation and training allowance" of around £5 million, due to Ings remaining under the age of 23.
Ings to Real Sociedad Switch Mooted
Monday, Feb. 2
According to Ian Dennis of BBC, the forward could join Real Sociedad at the end of the season:
Bleacher Report's Spanish football expert Guillem Balague also claimed a deal is very close to being done by the Basque side:
As noted by Neil Jones of the Liverpool Echo, the Reds are apparently "keen on signing the 22-year-old in the summer," but if David Moyes has swooped for the forward, it’ll scupper any hopes of a potential transfer.

According to Tony Barrett of The Times, the Reds are exploring other options in order to get a deal done:
Ings’ current manager, Sean Dyche, reaffirmed Burnley’s desire to keep hold of their top scorer until the end of the season in the aftermath of their 2-0 defeat against Sunderland. He also admitted that the speculation surrounding the player has affected Ings' performances:
"I took him off because I thought it had affected him - and it’s completely out of his hands, I must make that clear.
[...]
The laws and the rules of the Premier League have told them that he will be here, the chairman has told them he’ll be here, everyone will tell you that he’ll be here - I don’t know how many more times you want us to tell you he’ll be here. Unless someone has got an impossible amount of money, then he will be a Burnley player.
"

If the Englishman has indeed agreed to join the La Liga outfit, then he deserves great credit for taking on a challenge a lot of players would shirk. Playing in a more technically demanding division will only serve to round him as a forward, and if he does eventually return to the Premier League, he would do so as a much better player.
Richard Laverty thinks Ings would be a shrewd addition for the Basque club:
Ings’ work rate, intelligence and hunger make him an ideal fit for Moyes’ side, and if it was to land him ahead of the Reds, it would be a real coup. However, it remains to be seen if these rumours regarding a La Liga switch do eventually come to fruition.
